You Mean Gene Robinson Didn’t Make It All Better?

“I’m struck by the angry reactions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender folks to my story this week on the elation of the gay rights movement over President-elect Barack Obama’s selection of openly gay Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson to give the invocation kicking off inaugural week.” —Dan Gilgoff, “God & Country” blogger for U.S. News & World Report

movement?? what movement??
HRC? NGLTF? Prop 8 protesters?

I’m not angry about Rick Warren, I’m happy to see Gean Robinson included. My mind is focused on issues bigger than the so-called gay community, war, torture, the economy, the US global reputation and standing…

let’s get civil unions through, be able to adopt and inherit and be citizens of the USA and world, not of our single issue myopic ghettos.

“Of all the ministers in the U.S., Rick Warren is perhaps the worst choice Obama could have made.”

LMAO! Are you fucking kidding me?

That statement’s not surprising, however. The far left has spent so much time demonizing this man over the past few weeks that all perspective has been thrown out the window.

If I were Obama, I’d be ready to tell gays to just go fuck themselves. I can’t believe some of this bullshit about us being a “strategic ally,” wtf? According to who or what? This is the group of people who were some of the most hardcore PUMAs, accepting Obama with reluctance after what he “did” to Queen Hillary. This is the only demographic across the board, from Evangelicals to scaredy cat soccer moms, where the Republican candidate made a GAIN from 2004. A tremendous landslide election and gays were the only ones who managed to buck the trend. Now all of a sudden we were a key to Obama winning the election? LOL

That’s why the Gene Robinson move was stupid. These fanatics don’t care about him or anything else Obama does. All it did was make him look weak. He should use that scalpel he talked about in the debates to cut off the raving lunatic fringe and stick with the more moderate faction of gays who don’t care about symbolic bullshit like Rick Warren and Gene Robinson. All we want is legislation passed, we don’t give a fuck how many token gays you have in your cabinet. Just worry about us, President-elect, because people like Queerty’s own Leland Francis and Bill Purdue will never stand with you. Hopefully you can take this as a lesson learned.

I don’t care if Rev. Robinson is even allowed to share the podium and split the invocation with Rick Warren on inauguration day. Rick Warren compares me to pedophiles and criminals. Rick Warren worked to deny my fellow Californians the right to marry, and helped put my perfectly legal and valid marriage on the legal chopping block. It is an outrage that Obama honored Warren by choosing him to give the invocation. That does not change, no matter how many gay ministers Obama belatedly decides to honor. I’m surprised that you are surprised at the angry reaction.

When my husband of 18 years was being kicked to the curb by his employer of 25 years (an Episcopal private school), I wrote the Honorable Gene a letter about what was happening.

Making a long story short, this conservative school fired my husband for being gay. My hubby is also a life long Episcopalian. In the letter, I gave names and specifics as to what was happening to us. I asked this Bishop if he knew of any jobs for my partner or if he could connect him with someone that could help us.

The honorable Gene didnt even have the courtesy to respond.
Not even a “brush off” note from his secretary. Just silence.

So I say to hell with him. He’s just another politician.

Gene Robinson is not a sudden addition in an attempt to save face, he has been a planned part of the inauguration since the beginning, all throughout all of the hysterics about Warren I hardly ever saw anyone mention this, and I think it is just indicative of how desperately the GLBT blogosphere grasps every chance to be outraged and appoint someone new as our Enemy du Jour. Drives me crazy!

Stevenelliott: Did you ever, for one moment, think that maybe Robinson doesn’t open his own mail? It wouldn’t be the first time a gatekeeper fucked up the reputation of his/her boss.

Stevenelliot, I’m pretty sure that the Bishop is not in the business of getting jobs for people he doesn’t know. How could he recommend or hire someone who he knows nothing about?
He has put his life on the line to be an out gay religious leader. He deserves some respect.
Your comment strikes me as unrealistic.

Marty! Marty! Relax! Just breathe. Help is on the way. I’ve called 911 and they promise to send someone to pull your head out of Obama’s ass as soon as they can.

BTW: as long as you’re in there, say hello to Chris Crain.

Our federal, state, and local governments need to STOP the illegal promulgation of a state religion, Christianity, by having ANY and ALL of these preachers give prayers at official government events. I don’t care if the preacher is a homophobe or a gay man or woman. It’s wrong from the git-go. It’s unconstitutional.

See, whenever religion gets inserted into matters of state, it creates an instant shit-storm and for good reason — IT’S WRONG!

@BOBP

I agree that Rev. Robinson doesn’t owe anyone he doesn’t know a job. My point was he (or his designee) didn’t even respond. Now in LA, I am delighted with the respect I receive from Bishop Bruno, a straight ex-cop.

Nov 4th was the only time in U.S. history that civil rights were actually taken away from anyone. Sorry I don’t think there’s anything more important or basic than that. It’s not being “inclusive” to have Rick Warren give the invocation it’s bigotry plain and simple. I don’t see them inviting David Duke, or anyone from the KKK in order to be inclusive. 18,000 marriages were destroyed, tens of thousands of children made bastards. Maybe the self hating Michael W’s of this world aren’t upset by that but I am.
