SWINGING BOTH WAYS

Zac Efron goes bi (and eight other bisexual celebrity couples)

Hollywood actor Zac Efron wears a blazer jacket, undershirt and tie. He has spikey, grey hair and is making a silly face and doing a salute with his hand.

Remember when Zac Efron, otherwise known as the “sexiest mofo alive”, was a member of one of our favorite bisexual celebrity couples? Back in 2014, he and Michele Rodriguez were photographed being very cuddly with one another while on holiday in Sardinia. Apparently, that whole “Italian Daddy” thing Zac had with Gianluca Vacchi was just a phase.

Rumors about 35-year-old Rodriguez’s sexual orientation have swirled for years. She first admitted to experimenting with both sexes during a 2006 interview with Cosmo, and has since been very open about being bisexual. Given that he was 26 at the time, Efron was in his sexual prime. We can only imagine the amount of testosterone raging through his veins at any given moment. While the pair have split, and Zac has been linked to a myriad of starlets since, we’ll always remember the time we went bi!

Of course, Zac and Michelle weren’t the first celebrity pairing where one of the parties is bisexual. Scroll down for eight more bisexual celebrity couples from over the years!

Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh

English actor Laurence Olivier married Oscar-winning actress Vivien Leigh in 1940. Not only was Olivier reportedly bisexual in real life, but he also played one in a deleted scene from the original version of the 1960 epic Spartacus. The scene was added back into the film in 1991, finally giving the public an opportunity to hear “Some people like oysters. Some people like snails. I like oysters & snails,” which is about as blatant a euphemism for bisexuality as any ever uttered.

Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly

Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly are basically the hottest thing in town right now. Megan, the Hollywood sensation known for her smoldering roles, isn’t just turning heads on screen; she’s also been making waves for her unapologetic bisexuality. She casually dropped on Instagram that she’s been “Putting the B in #LGBTQIA for over two decades.” Talk about making it look easy! Megan and MGK’s relationship isn’t just heating up the tabloids; it’s also a refreshing reminder that love has no rulebook and that being true to yourself is the coolest thing you can do.

Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer

Anna Paquin, the brilliant Sookie Stackhouse of True Blood fame, sure knows how to keep us on our toes. Back in 2010, she threw fans for a loop when she married her co-star Stephen Moyer, aka Bill Compton. But here’s the cool part – Anna isn’t just an amazing actress; she’s also an open and proud bisexual. She let the world know on Instagram, saying, “I’m a #proudbisexual who is married to a wonderful human who happens to be a man.” Talk about making a statement!

James Dean and Ursula Andress

James Dean’s sexuality has been a hotly contested topic over the years. Some claim the actor was gay, others say he was bisexual, and a few suggested he was gay “for trade,” as a means of advancing his career. And while Dean isn’t around to admit it, we know is that Dean dated Swiss actress Ursula Andress from 1953-1955, and that he was also romantically linked to Rogers Brackett, a very well-connected ad exec. That’s called being bi, honey.

Halsey and Avan Jogia

We’ve got a fresh duo to keep an eye on: Halsey and Avan Jogia. You might remember Avan from their Victorious days, while Halsey needs no introduction as a chart-topping singer-songwriter. What makes this pairing extra interesting is that Halsey recently parted ways with their ex and co-parent, Alev Aydin. Either way, we hope only the best for Halsey and whoever they’re with!

Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera

Sexuality was a topic meant to be hush-hush in the 1920’s. Still, Mexican artist Frida Kahlo was like, “Hold my brush!” Frida, an unapologetic bisexual icon, tied the knot with fellow artist Diego Rivera back in 1929. But here’s the juicy twist—Diego was surprisingly chill about her affairs with women, including the legendary Josephine Baker.

Aubrey Plaza and Jeff Baena

The sultry and sarcastic, Aubrey Plaza, has a firm grip on the hearts of many of our femme readers. In a 2016 interview with The Advocate, Aubrey confirmed her fluidity in matters of sexuality. But in 2021, she left us all flabbergasted when she pulled off a surprise quarantine wedding with director Jeff Baena! Aubrey sure knows how to keep us on our toes, in the best way possible.

Billie Joe Armstrong and Adrienne Nesser

Back in 1994, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong tied the knot with Adrienne Nesser. A year after their wedding, Billie Joe let the world in on a secret during an interview with the Advocate: he swings both ways. Armstrong later spilled the beans to Rolling Stone, sating that many of the songs on the album “Dookie” were inspired by coming to terms with being bisexual. Talk about turning life experiences into epic tunes!
