1 in 5 straight men watch man-on-man adult videos, riveting new study confirms

Groundbreaking news regarding the porn viewing habits of straight men, folks.

A new study published in the Archives of Sexual Behaviour and led by Dr. Martin J. Downing looks at the porn-viewing habits of over 800 gay, straight, and bisexual men from cities across the country. Researchers discovered that approximately 55 percent of gay men watch straight porn, and 21 percent (1 in 5) of straight men watch gay porn.

But before you go getting all excited, according to researchers, none of the straight men who watched gay porn said they actually engaged in sex with other men. They just liked watching two guys getting it on together.

Downing says this “identity discrepant viewing” demonstrates “some level of evidence” of fluidity in sexual attraction, at least in terms of what guys are watching and possibly masturbating to, but that’s about it.

As for bi guys, they reported watching man-on-man porn just as much as gay men do, and man-on-woman porn almost as much as straight dudes, as well as a healthy dose of man-on-man-on-woman and man-on-woman-woman porn. All this suggests to Downing that, contrary to what George Michael may tweet, bisexual men aren’t just “watered down gays or heterosexuals.”

“[Bisexual men] are more like heterosexual men in some things, and more like gay men in other things, but that’s a reflection of their own unique attractions,” Downing says. “They’re not identical to either group in terms of their porn viewing, which I think is really interesting for understanding bisexuality.”

Other interesting tidbits from the study:

  • Both bi and straight guys reported viewing solo masturbation material at a rate of 60 percent.
  • Gay men watched solo masturbation material at a rate of 50 percent.
  • Bi guys were less interested in viewing BDSM and kinky porn (13.7 percent) than their straight (24.6 percent) or gay (27.9 percent) counterparts, unless…
  • That kink involved fisting, felching, or water sports. Gay men reported being far more likely to report watching these activities.

Downing says the ultimately takeaway from the study is that people’s porn viewing habits are pretty all-over-the-map. Not just that, but bi guys are more distinct from their straight and gay brothers when it comes to the type of porn they consume.
