Groundbreaking news regarding the porn viewing habits of straight men, folks.
A new study published in the Archives of Sexual Behaviour and led by Dr. Martin J. Downing looks at the porn-viewing habits of over 800 gay, straight, and bisexual men from cities across the country. Researchers discovered that approximately 55 percent of gay men watch straight porn, and 21 percent (1 in 5) of straight men watch gay porn.

But before you go getting all excited, according to researchers, none of the straight men who watched gay porn said they actually engaged in sex with other men. They just liked watching two guys getting it on together.
Downing says this “identity discrepant viewing” demonstrates “some level of evidence” of fluidity in sexual attraction, at least in terms of what guys are watching and possibly masturbating to, but that’s about it.
As for bi guys, they reported watching man-on-man porn just as much as gay men do, and man-on-woman porn almost as much as straight dudes, as well as a healthy dose of man-on-man-on-woman and man-on-woman-woman porn. All this suggests to Downing that, contrary to what George Michael may tweet, bisexual men aren’t just “watered down gays or heterosexuals.”

“[Bisexual men] are more like heterosexual men in some things, and more like gay men in other things, but that’s a reflection of their own unique attractions,” Downing says. “They’re not identical to either group in terms of their porn viewing, which I think is really interesting for understanding bisexuality.”
Other interesting tidbits from the study:
- Both bi and straight guys reported viewing solo masturbation material at a rate of 60 percent.
- Gay men watched solo masturbation material at a rate of 50 percent.
- Bi guys were less interested in viewing BDSM and kinky porn (13.7 percent) than their straight (24.6 percent) or gay (27.9 percent) counterparts, unless…
- That kink involved fisting, felching, or water sports. Gay men reported being far more likely to report watching these activities.
Downing says the ultimately takeaway from the study is that people’s porn viewing habits are pretty all-over-the-map. Not just that, but bi guys are more distinct from their straight and gay brothers when it comes to the type of porn they consume.

I have been unsuccessfully trying to post a link to an article Qweerti posted in October on this same topic but they won’t let me. Must not like having their repetitiveness pointed out.

Might want to fix that George Michael reference. Think you’ve got the wrong George.

Yes, this was posted at queerty some time ago. Why are they doing this?
Kangol
Wait–the tweet is by Boy George, so why does this article mention the late George Michael? I mean, there’s sloppy and then there’s just trifling. Get it together, Queerty!

George Michael passed away recently. You mean Boy George.

Why do I even bother to visit this site?

I had to read this to see why straight guys would watch gay porn. I still don’t understand. Gay men had to watch straight porn for years because there wasn’t much else around but why would straight guys want to see porn with no breastases or va*inas, in it? And gay men are enjoying the penises on the men in straight porn, and if like me, ignoring the female.

This just in: The world is filled with hundreds of millions of closeted bisexuals.

Dat big toe tho…looks like a big ol mushroom tip. Is this is how foot fetishism starts?

And they both do so for the same reason – they like watching hot guys in action. There are certain straight porn actors I think are really quite hot and I have a little collection of straight porn I have collected over the years containing those actors for exactly the reason I am looking at them in action not the chick.

What I don’t understand regarding this obsession in gay media related to stories of straight men going gay… and liking it. Has there ever been a guy who was gay and went straight and liked it? There is absolutely no way as a gay man that I can make love to a woman with the passion, desire and sensuality that I feel with a man… Period. I’m sure there are things a woman can do to get the hardware to work… but is that REALLY what sex is about? Clumsy, dry, mechanical motions followed by eventual organism?

Organism = orgasm

Well, when I was in high school, one of my friends once told me and another friend of ours how for him the girl/breast/vagina wasn’t that important. For him, he said, what that was important was seeing the dick in motion and fantasizing it was him. So I can see how, straight men can see gay porn and get off to it but yet not really want to engage in gay sex.

“But before you go getting all excited, according to researchers, none of the straight men who watched gay porn said they actually engaged in sex with other men. They just liked watching two guys getting it on together.” This of course is all changing now particularly as people exit religion and The psychosis it produces. More str8 to bi guys want to engage physically. People are really waking up to the controls around their sexuality and those controls are dropping. Good deal. Love the new specimens entering the let’s have fun sex pool.

@Brian: Who says they’re “closeted bisexuals” though? If women can engage in a little girl on girl and still consider themselves straight (and w/o much objection), why can’t guys do the same?
Brian
Most straight-identifying guys can swing both ways but won’t admit it because of their fear of how women might react.
Women are VERY homophobic in terms of the discovery of male homosexual desires in their husbands or boyfriends.
Just a note – porn is not sex. Porn is prostitution. Be careful about drawing conclusions from it.

Here Brian goes with his straight-obsessed, “secret bi-guys”, misogynistic nonsense. This dude is one seriously pathetic, woman-hating, straight-obsessed mo.
I’ve had sex with women (quite a few times). I’ve masturbated to lesbian porn a couple times in my life. Yet, I’m a homo. Almost anyone with an open enough mind can “swing both ways”. Some people can be turned on by sexuality in general, even if it involves genders they’re not sexually attracted to or they have certain fetishes. That’s not bi-sexual. Bi-sexual is persistent sexual attraction, desire, arousal and fantasy, not who you can fvck. And I’m all about experimenting, but if you don’t have that for both men and women you’re not bi.
These random studies are very… random. Who are these people even asking? And they’re basing this off what guys identify as? As if men don’t frequently lie about their orientation. This seems like nothing more than another push for the bi-guy agenda. And this whole site has become nothing more than a straight-gazing exercise in self-hatred.
Brian
@Donston: I partly agree with you. You seem to understand the distinction between fetish and orientation. It’s my view that fetish can overcome orientation.
I don’t agree with your criticism of me, of course.
Donston
This is the only gay-themed site to consistently post these random, hardly scientific “studies”. There’s clearly an agenda here. I just wanted to put that out there.
Fetish can never overtake orientation. People’s sexual orientations just don’t change once they become adults. Study after study says that (real studies). Just as studies continue to say that men just don’t have persistent sexual attraction, desire and arousal for both men and men. They may get enjoyment out of being with both sexually and maybe romantically. But once again, it’s a fetish.
Only for inherently gay men living a hetero-fetish life are there benefits (unless a straight guy is dating a dude who’s financially taking care of him). These gay men don’t have to be seen as a fag all the time. They get the ego boost of being able to sexually and romantically please women. They get the benefit of perhaps having a tradition family one day (or somewhat traditional). And if they have an open relationship they get to indulge their real orientation. But as one gets older ego and narcissism starts to fades away (if one is psychologically sound it does), which means sexual interest and often times romantic interest in your fetish often fades away as well. An inherently straight man will always go back to women. So, whether it’s a straight man living a homo-fetish life or a gay man living hetero-fetish life, at the end of the day the gay identifying, non multiple gender fetish homo men will continue to get the short straw.
This is why I wasn’t against the homoflexible/heteroflexible movement (“sexually fluid” has been used by guys primarily as a way for gay men to hide that they’re inherently gay. Plus, it just sounds gross). With homo/hetero-flexible you understand what a man’s baseline, persistent orientation is, but you also understand that there’s desire to step out of it. However, dudes didn’t want to embrace the “flexible” trend, especially inherently gay men who still want to have sex and relationships with women. They definitely don’t want to admit that beyond the “layers” and fetish they’re still homos.
ChrisK
The only way to confirm this is if they used a penile plethysmograph to measure the excitement levels of their subjects. Not posting whatever BS they’re telling them. News flash. Guys lie.
Donston
^ The “bi-guy” agenda is real-real (especially on this site).
And what Brian is suggesting is similar to what church-going homophobes say: forget embracing your inherent sexual orientation. Find some way to enjoy sex and relationships with this particular gender and stick to it.
Herman75
Also as fascinating is how some lesbian couples watch gay porn. To each his own. Praze Jeebuz!!!
Donston
I’ve talked to several of my lesbian fans about this. Only one of the three says she watches a decent amount of male on male porn. It’s actually more typical for bi women to watch male on male porn than lesbians. However, the one friend that identified as a lesbian who watched gay porn said she did so because of the aggression and said she gets some enjoyment out of watching men get pounded. Some lesbians have a gay man domination fetish. She still watches more girl on girl porn than anything.
Point is, the porn you most frequently watch will not only reflect your orientation but also you fetishes. Liking to watch men or women get sexually “punished” doesn’t equate to having substantial sexual attraction to either.
Also, this poll/study is still bullocks.
jenbird
Bad news for ChrisK, the penile plethysmograph is a discredited method.
