The fiendish wizards at Dangerous Minds can always be relied upon to unearth some truly arcane bits of Americana, and this cachet of photos culled from a 1994 Scientology manual is absolutely no exception.

The 871 page book is rife with druggy, deeply saturated images that are impressively, unintentionally unsettling, depicting a world charged with danger, dereliction, and devilry of every stripe.
As you can see for yourself, these panels are very, very out there:

“I knew L. Ron Hubbard back when he was a small time crook.”
Marion Zimmer Bradley, fellow pulp science fiction writer, on hearing Hubbard had founded a religion called $cientology.

John Travolta is the effect.

Dear God,
Don’t let the Republicans see this!

Not everything is tasteful from the 90s. 20 pages out of 800 pages is a little out of context.
Queerty you object defensibly when ‘straight’ society puts up walls around gay issues.
I thought you may have a more inclusive agenda. As a gay Scientologist I think you need to think about who in our community you may be offending.
Love the majority of the articles. Spot on.

@stevenrose: Lol nice joke

@stevenrose: You’re kidding, right? What article here has ever led you to believe that Queerty inclusive about ANY religious doctrine?
To you and OH SO MANY others: this is an entertainment site, not a news site.
Keep up the good work, Queerty.

@stevenrose: You know what L. Ron Hubbard said about gay $cientologists?
The sexual pervert (and by this term Dianetics, to be brief, includes any and all forms of deviation in dynamic two such as homosexuality, lesbianism, sexual sadism, etc., and all down the catalog of Ellis and Krafft-Ebing) is actually quite ill physically.
Such people should be taken from the society as rapidly as possible and uniformly institutionalized; for here is the level of the contagion of immorality, and the destruction of ethics.

@stevenrose:
I never worry about offending a Scientologist. I worry about one of you sitting next to me.

@stevenrose: All religions are crazy. Scientology merely has the distinction of being about the craziest.

These illustrations have succeeded in making me want to actually read the book:
“Thank you. Notice that wall.”
“Yes.”

“Look around here and find something you could have.”
“That coat rack.”
—-
“Thank you. Go over and touch it.”

These are fucking poetry and I want to know more.
