Infuriating news from Alabama: the state’s first homicide victim of 2019 also happens to be a transgender woman. The murder also marks the first killing of a transgender person in the US this year.
Police discovered the body of 31-year-old Dana Martin in an abandoned vehicle near Montgomery on January 6. She died of a fatal gunshot wound.

Preliminary information is sketchy at best, and the case remains under investigation. Early information suggests Martin died near the site where police found her body. Law enforcement also misgendered her as male in their first reports.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Statistically speaking, transgender women face a far-higher likelihood of becoming victims of violence and murder. According to the Human Rights Campaign, at least 26 transgender people were murdered in 2018.

Hooker is killed. Why is anyone surprised? This has more to do with her being a prostitute than being trans.

God, you are an ass.

Clearly compassion and decency are utterly lacking in your wheelhouse. Show some respect for the dead, especially a murdered person!

You poor misguided soul… The LGBTQ community is comprised of all walks of life. This extremely sad and tragic event should never have happened, whether she was involved in sex work or not. The point is, one of us is no longer with us and that infuriates me beyond measure. I am a proud trans woman and I can’t begin to imagine what she went through alone, she was tossed away like trash. You don’t seem to understand that she, in all likelihood, had a family and they must be inconsolable at this time. Show some respect and stop blaming her demise because you seem to think that she was a sex worker, you don’t really know what happened to her, nowhere in the article does it state that she was a sex worker. You conjured some sad stereotypical thought in your mind. Try and show some compassion for her and for her family and stop labeling someone without proof, you weren’t there…

@DyanaB – FYI there is no such thing as an “LGBTQ community.” “LGBTQ” articulates and codifies the colonization of LGB people by an external group (T) and a hegemonic ideology (Q).

– This is lying nonsense. Where’d you get these stats from?
Statistically speaking trans are most UNLIKELY to be victims of murder.
These stats are put out by trans activists so shut down criticism and gain sympathy- like the phoney stats about trans suicide rates!
Queerty was the one remaining gay male stronghold immune to trans nonsense, but now it seems even queerty has gone over to the trans dark side
Enough of the trans nonsense, queerty, stick to gay and lesbian stories
MarathonBoy
When you work out the ratio of 26 trans murders to all murders in the US over the same year, it actually a disproportionately LOW murder rate for trans. The “26 per year” stat is an argument against their being any kind of crisis. On the contrary, it raises the question of why HRC and Queerty are so concerned about the trans homicide rate and don’t give a rat’s poop about LGB homicides.
MarathonBoy
Two young lesbian middle-schoolers were bullied after they came out and they killed themselves. But Queerty doesn’t care about that. No, a trans hooker was killed in what is almost certainly an ordinary homicide and that’s more important than LGB youths’ lives. This is “LGBT” ideology at work, on full display.
