Christine Jorgensen was no friend of the LGB community. She was notoriously homophobic.

No Martina????Ken Mehlman is one of the great DOUCHEBAGS of all time- it was him, as RNC Chair/Bush Cmpgn director who put gay marriage props on ballots to turn out the base to vote for Bush and against us- we should NEVER forgive this man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ken Melhman did great harm to the gay community. There is nothing he can do to make up for it. Why would you skip someone like Vito Russo and list him? Pitiful.

I feel like there has been a bit of gay-washing around Harry Hay. While I am very thrilled he was included, I think more should be said about how utterly radical he was and how he was also the Founder (with others) of the Radical Faeries.

I couldn’t agree more, Chelsea was nothing more than a headline seeking gadfly, and tried using her unbeknownst gender identity as a defense to making such a stupid decision to divulge classified information for personal gain. She is not a champion for anything other than Chelsea. Take her off of this list if you want to keep it legitimate.

This list is invalidated by the inclusion of Ken Mehlman.

      And Cher??
What did she trailblaze?? Cosmetic surgery and Botox?

I agree, there are a number of questionable inclusions on this list but none are more egregious than Mary Cheney who instead of contributing to our movement has been donating tens of thousands of dollars to our enemies–like Mitt Romney–while living the life of a 1%-er–and in that famous hissy fit she had with her repulsive sister Liz–Dick came out on Liz’s side rather than evolving like Queerty claims.

I remember Bella Abzug. She wore really terrific hats, and she was a great lady, too. She should be on the list. I would have also included Marlo Thomas and Phil Donahue. On the other hand, Melhman and Cheney do NOT belong on this list.

I love it …the 45 Trailblazers Who Changed the World are ALL Americans. Nobody anywhere else in the world including the UK or Canada or South Africa hjas done anything since 1969 to advance LGBT human rights or same-sex marriage or anti-dicrimination laws. What a sad world. But then again PEOPLE magazine for years runs a special feature on the World’s Most Beautiful Person..and can you guess what country that person invariably comes from?

      Yes, quite.
Where’s Georgina Beyer, the first transsexual politician in the world? She certainly deserves to be there more than Christine Jorgensen.

Well, this is definitely open to discussion as a starting point. I suggest Queerty make a call for input beyond the comments section.

For me, if you’re going to include Mary Cheney & Ken Mehlman, you might as well include folks like Anita Bryant & that tap-dancing bathroom senator. After all, if not for their adversity we wouldn’t have mobilized & turned public opinion as dramatically as we have.

Chuck Dima got the Big Apple Softball League going. He always looked out for LGBT kids who were on the street and used to hold Thanksgiving Dinner in his bar on Christopher Street where he always brought in those with nowhere to go.

Not really sure why Steve Gallardo is on here either. Yeah sure it’s nice to have out politicians and everything, but he hasn’t exactly changed the world. In fact the only thing that’s changed since he came out is he ended his bid for congress and is now running for a county commission seat.

Manning has every right to be whom ever she wishes. If she wants to be Chelsea now, by all means allow it. However, not on my dime. This person considers herself a whistle blower, but she is a traitor to our country. If she feels she needs to be a woman, that is a personal decision only she can make. The taxpayer, regardless of their opinion on the LGBTQ issues, should not have to pay for someone who sold out their country and probably caused inumeral deaths of our boys and girls in the service of their country. Also, while wearing the uniform of any branch of the military you are sworn to loyalty. You have never been sworn to sexual preference, it was policy. You were however sworn to protect and preserve this country. The Rosenbergs were put to death for less.

There are quite a few people missing. Milk, Frank, Ellen, Greg Louganis. For allies, President Obama & VP Biden, Oprah, the Govs of NY, MD, IL. I agree about Donahue & Marlo & really, no Elizabeth Taylor.

Mehlman = a self hating former closet case. How many kids killed themselves after his shameful 04 campaign?

Mary Cheney????? LOL @ that one. WTF has she ever done for anyone other than herself.

Manning. A traitor. No place on this list. I agree with everything Candleman01 said
