The gays simply adore Barack Obama!
That’s what a new Harris Poll indicates, at least, with a vast majority of the lavender set throwing their weight behind the Democratic presidential hopeful:
Among LGBT adults, 60 percent favor Obama while 14 percent favor McCain.
Three percent of LGBT adults favor [Libertarian Bob] Barr, while 1 percent choose Nader. Six percent choose “other,” while 17 percent of all LGBT voters are not yet sure which candidate to support — comparable to the general population.
The survey also shows that Obama has a a slight lead on McCain among the general population: 44-to-35.
CitizenGeek
Those 14% who are supporting McCain make me sad. Like, they obviously just cover their ears and shout “la la la can’t hear it” whenever McCain does some douchy, anti-gay crap.
Bill Perdue
For those naive enough to actually vote in rigged elections the choice is clear – vote for any the US Labor Party candidates who make it past the hurdles or use your vote to lodge a protest by voting for socialist or communist candidates. Or like most savvy voters, just sit it out.
Whatever you do, don’t waste your vote on frauds and charlatans like McCain or Obama. They jointly trashed ENDA and the hate crimes bill and retained DOMA and DADT. They’re for the war and the economic policies that have sent out standard of living into a nosedive. They both support NAFTA and oppose socialized medicine. They both voted to trash the Fourth Amendment and they both pander to religious bigots.
The Democratic and Republican parties are the enemy. They’re on the wrong side on all the major questions. That’s why in most elections most people just give it a pass and abstainers will probably be the majority again this time. They’re sick to death of having to choose the lesser of right wing lesser backstabbers. They refuse to buy into that ‘choice’ and so should we.
However you do it, vote against McCain and Obama. McCain is a jackass in a people suit with the Rev. Pat Robertson attached at the hip. Obama is Bill Clinton in drag with the Rev. Donnie McKlurkin attached at his hip.
CHURCHILL-Y
“I still think that these are decisions that need to be made at a state and local level. I’m a strong supporter of civil unions. And I think that, you know, we’re involved in a national conversation about this issue. You know, I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman” -Obama
In his mind, be it because of religion or the political game he likes to play we’re not worthy of an equal status to his.
It’s always amazes me to see all the people who are in a rush to elect another William Jefferson Clinton type when it comes to GLBT issues.
I and many of my friends rather stick with a flat out clear enemy than a guy who likes to muddy the waters and stab us in our backs.
I’ve come to realize that for all the stupidity and hatred directed at us from the Bush administration we as a community have made far greater progress in these past 8 years than in Bills. Two states have done the right thing and legalize our unions on a same footing as our hetero counterparts and overall because of the sheer incompetence and downright meanness from Bush we have made people more aware of the stupidity of homophobia and discrimination
based on sexual orientation. I fear that with Hussein’s false smiles/promises and appeasement of GLBT groups while at the same time pandering to the religious right mainly the African American one, he will succeed in tampering and put our progresses in a stagnant position for the whole of his 2 terms much like Bill and perhaps
worst. The proof is in the pudding, so far 17 and I’m sure the number will reach way much more than 20.
CHANGE #1: Barack Obama says he’s against The California Ballot Measure Banning Gay Marriage Despite His repeated Assertion That Marriage Is Between A Man And A Woman.
Despite his so called ’support’ for GLBT rights he’s on record for also saying that a second class citizen status such as a civil partnership a la Vermont is his preferred resolution for the issue and goes beyond and says that the issue should be left up to individual States to decide upon. We shouldn’t be entitled to the same rights and protections his family has but he’s Okay with the California Supreme Court decision. Until it gets voted down in November by the public then another flip-flop on the making.
CHANGE #2: While Obama says he will support a repeal of DADT once he’s president as a senator he hasn’t co-sponsored MREA ( The Military Readiness Enhancement Act, a bill to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.â€) in both the 109th and 110th congress.
CHANGE #3: Despite Pledging To Withdraw American Troops From Iraq Immediately, Barack Obama Now Says He Would “Refine†His Policy After Listening To The Commanders On The Ground
CHANGE #4: Despite Pledging To Accept Public Financing, Barack Obama Has Reversed His Position And Opted Out Of The System
CHANGE #5: Barack Obama Is Backtracking On His Support For Unilaterally Renegotiating NAFTA
CHANGE #6: Barack Obama Is Considering Reducing Corporate Taxes Despite Having Called Corporate Tax Cuts “The Exact Wrong Prescription For Americaâ€
CHANGE #7: Barack Obama Has Changed Positions On Handgun Ban
CHANGE #8: As A Presidential Candidate, Barack Obama Criticizes The Administration’s Energy Policy Despite Having Voted For The 2005 Bush-Cheney Energy Bill
CHANGE #9: Barack Obama Has Shifted From Opposing Welfare Reform To Celebrating Welfare Reform
CHANGE #10: Barack Obama Has Shifted Positions On Nuclear Power
CHANGE #11: During The Primaries, Barack Obama Pledged To Filibuster Any Bill Which Contained Immunity For Telecommunications Companies Involved In Electronic Surveillance, But Now he has voted in favor of FISA while Senator Clinton voted against it.
CHANGE #12: Barack Obama Disagreed With The Supreme Court Decision Striking Down The Use Of The Death Penalty For A Convicted Child Rapist Although In The Past He Opposed The Death Penalty
CHANGE #13: Barack Obama Has Backtracked From His Earlier Commitment To Meet With The Leaders Of State Sponsors Of Terror “Without Preconditionâ€
CHANGE #14: After Saying Jerusalem Should Be “Undivided,†Barack Obama Has Since Backtracked
CHANGE #15: As A Presidential Candidate, Barack Obama Has Backed Away From His Earlier Support For Normalized Relations With Cuba And Ending The Embargo
CHANGE #16: Barack Obama Says That “Mental Distress†Should Not Be Reason For A Late Term Abortion Which Contradicts His Past Pro-Choice Views
CHANGE #17: Barack Obama has come out in full support and expressed his desire to expand on Bush’s faith based initiative programs although he has said previously that he values this Nations principle of the separation of church and state.

This gay, registered Democrat will be voting for McCain. I would rather die than vote for Obama

You can kiss your rights goodbye if McCain gets in there. In fact, you can kiss your life goodbye, national security goodbye, the economy goodbye, and the supreme court goodbye.
ProfessorVP
I don’t care what Obama changes, and that includes his underwear. McCain is so out of it, I wouldn’t trust him with my TV remote, much less let him near The Big Button.
Last week he was trying to explain why he wanted to “explore” for oil. First he said “exploit.” Then he said “explode.” This is merely one example of many. It’s called Alzheimer’s, folks, and it’s idiotic to pretend it’s not there because noticing it would be ageist. Then, of course, there’s the little matter of him being insane, as socially reactionary as Bush, and as corrupt and on-the-take as the crooks he has railed against. So yes, I will take the imperfect Obama, and heave a sigh of relief when he wins.
Lamar
I will only support Obama if he’s lucky enough to get Clinton on as VP.
I don’t necessarily think Obama is pro-gay when he supports the funding of religious institutions and goes on tour with anti-gay gospel singers (one of which is gay but denounces being gay and claims one can be cured)
McCain is a joke. Even Republicans hate him.
seitan-on-a-stick
The extremists have all lined up to sit on their hands for any gay progress much less some vestige of progressive values and re-elect Bush (in this case the sore loser from 2000, McGroan.) The McCaininites must just have tons of cash in their Panic Rooms that they make Money Angels with. Unfortunately, in the Real world, we have a choice and clearly Gays are voting with the least gay-unfriendly of the two candidates. Eddie Izzard asks in his ‘Circles” DVD the option of CAKE or DEATH? which you can probably YouTube. I just feel sorry for the Gays who pick McCain…er, I meant to say DEATH! I for one, would prefer CAKE and so do the Gay Majority in the United States of America.
Darien
I must say, it’s very depressing to see so many of my fellow gays continue to buy into the myth that Hillary Clinton is more pro-gay than Obama. So she marched in a parade one year. Big deal. As if that somehow makes up for DOMA and DADT. Hell, the only time she ever even mentioned gays and lesbians on the campaign trail was when she was talking to gays and lesbians (ie- asking us for money).
KB
Don’t be deceived by conservative trolls like Churchill-y who come here to do the Republican’s dirty work for them out of desperation. You can easily compose a list just as long of all the flip-flops McCain has made, on very important issues: abortion, the Bush tax cuts, gay issues, etc.
As for us being better off in the last 8 years of W’s administration than the 8 of Clinton, how much of that was Bush’s or the Republican’s doing? Our advances have had NOTHING to do with Bush. He has opposed every progressive issue related to gays that I can think of, and is still denying his own task force’s findings on climate change. He’s a jerk, and if you think McCain is going to be any different (despite his 95% similarity to Bush’s agenda, and 100% similarity this year in legislation), then your common sense is questionable.
As for the Hillary supporters: When Obama’s positions are so similar to hers, why in the world would you vote for McCain over Obama? If you can’t stand Obama, then why not WRITE IN Hillary’s name? That way, you would still be voting for her, but you don’t have to give McCain a vote which will be way worse. If for no other reason, the question of Supreme Court appointments should be sufficient enough reason to get over it. Cutting off your nose to spite your face by voting against your self-interest is forgotten 5 minutes after you pull the lever…but thre repercussions last for years.
Finally, I wish the conservative trolls would realize that we are not afraid of Obama just because you call him “Hussein.” Oooohhh, scary!
Bill Perdue
KB says “If for no other reason, the question of Supreme Court appointments should be sufficient enough reason …” The courts, no matter who controls them, are not our friends, much less our saviors. The silly idea that the best judges are those appointed by Democrats isn’t borne out by the facts. Far from being a reason to vote for Democrats the kind of rightwing pro-property judges they appoint are another reason to vote against them.
The California same sex marriage decision was decided by a majority ruling of three Republicans and the lone Democrat on the court. Chief Justice George, a Republican, was first appointed to the bench by Ronald Reagan in 1972. The court majority in Massachusetts was Republican too. It doesn’t mean Republican judges are better, it just means that all judges are susceptible to pressure from mass movements.
Some Republican judges get better and some Democratic judges are no good. The best way to influence the courts and the Congress is to continuously expand the struggle for full equality and not deflect our energy into electing snake oil sellers and backstabbers like Obama and McCain.
Bill Clinton, the man behind bigot laws like DOMA and DADT appointed Karen Nelson Moore to the US Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in 1995. Moore consistently votes for the rights of christianists to oppress GLBT folk. Senate Democrats led by Feinstein of California worked with Republicans to approve gaybashing Bush nominees for the US 7th Circuit Court of Appeals and as US Attorney General.
Most politicians are very wealthy and the rest are in politics to get that way. That’s the American political bottom line. Everything else, including the lies about the courts is hoopla and snake oil sales.
Democrats and Republicans all appoint judges whose first duty is to protect wealth and privilege, and they don’t take kindly to laws or lawsuits that award large claims against christian cults and other bigots. Nevertheless US history abounds with examples of what happens when they’re faced with a mass movement that won’t take no for an answer. Sometimes they give us what we want like the samesex marriage rulings in California and Massachusetts and the US Supremes decision on sodomy. If, that is, we make it perfectly clear what the alternative will be.
KB
Sorry Bill, but I live in California, which has a far different constituency to answer to (both in the 1970s and now) than the United States as a whole. You cannot compare the Republican state Supreme Court judges to the current U.S. Supreme Court *and* the type of judge that a Republican president would be forced to appoint to appease his conservative base.
If someone is turned off to both Obama and McCain because they are dissatisfied with both the Democratic and Republican parties, that is one thing. But to suggest that we would be better off under a McCain administration is not borne out by either the facts or history.
flightoftheseabird
“If you can’t stand Obama, then why not WRITE IN Hillary’s name? That way, you would still be voting for her, but you don’t have to give McCain a vote which will be way worse.”
A write-in vote for Hillary is a de facto vote for McCain. We have two choices (realistically). One is 4 more years of the same war, economic, and social policies and the other is maybe a little squishy on gay issues but at least he has a clear transformative vision and plan for America.
For those of you who don’t think the Supreme Court doesn’t matter think of Alito, Roberts, Scalia, Thomas, and Renquist. All Republican appointees. Also remember a little case of Bush v. Gore (three of the above five were in the 5-4 majority…and even Justice Souter says that decision was pure politics).

Of course anyone whio believes either that H Clinton was more Pro gay or more libreral is an idiot.
The important things that Obama has not backed down on are his position regarding the war, his attitude toward Nafta; he was clear in his statement about faith-based initiatives that those had to be completely secular in content ; He is firm about retracting this country’s foolhardy militarization. He is “triangulating in small ways to try and take a more centrist position. But if you want another Bush then there is little I can say.
If you think that Mccain will do a better job then Obama you might think about checking into a drug abuse program, or get psychiatric help.
M Shane
More than anything , it should be noted that Obama believes in reinstating our constitution (which if none of you ‘educated’ forlks have noticed has been trashed. E.G He wants to separate the branches of government again.
If he can only do thiose things he will get America back to where we have a chance.
Mr C
Miss Michael Duquette,
Those are strong words to say:I would rather die than vote for Obama
Well you won’t vote for him. But if he wins can I pick out your Madonna style casket?
2012 will not be the year for HRC neither.
It’s a WRAP for those dreams!
By the way who cares about you being educated with such crazy militant feelings.
Bill Perdue
KB – “California exceptionalism†is a myth, a non-idea. I lived in LA for twenty five years and never saw a hint of it. Ronald Reagan appointed the Chief Justice who sided with us. The idea that judges bend to pressure makes a lot more sense than some made up notion like “California exceptionalismâ€. All judges fro both parties are rightwing and all are susceptible to pressure.
Where did you get “But to suggest that we would be better off under a McCain administration is not borne out by either the facts or history.” Why is it linked to comments I made?
Mark, if Obama is for the Constitution why did he support FISA, a bill that trashed the Fourth Amendment to save money for the same corporations that fund his campaign?
McCain is jackass with the Rev. Pat Robertson attached at the hip. Obama is Bill Clinton in drag with the Rev. Donnie McClurkin attached at his hip.
Mr C
Well Bill what are you looking for FOR REAL and who do you think has the answers to YOUR issues?
Bill Perdue
Mr C – I’m looking to build mass movements to COMPEL change and the US Labor Party to give them a political voice.
I’m one of a large number of people that will not vote for our enemies. On the other hand those who vote for the Democrats are voting FOR war, union busting and anti-GLBT bigots like Obama, Pelosi, the Clintons and turncoats like Barney Frank.
But, not to worry. We’ll clean up the mess you make.
KB
Bill, Reagan used to be a Democrat, and later ushered in the litmus-test politics for Supreme Court justices that has only gotten worse with the new mantra of “constructionist” judges and other thinly-veiled “our neocons only” type judges. Crap, just look at Clarence Thomas — wholly unqualified to sit on the high court, but because he hates everyone and everything, he got appointed and has made an ass of himself and a mockery of the justice system ever since. I disagree, and believe that the California judiciary is far different than the Supreme Court. Just an opinion. The McCain comment wasn’t aimed at you, but at those who think he and his conservative administration will somehow be a better friend to our community than the Democrats. It’s absurd. McCain will choose a running mate who is more conservative than himself. I am struck by the outrageousness of the neocon blog trolls who waste their time here fighting a lost cause (as evidenced by the poll numbers in the original article here).
Why aren’t those disaffected with the two major parties interested in talking about Bob Barr, Ralph Nader, or the Green Party candidates?
Sorry kids, Obama is in the lead and likely to win. If you take a look at the RealClearPolitics website, he already has 255 of 270 electoral votes pretty much in the bag, and it’s not even Labor Day. If anyone is upset about this, blame Bush and the do-nothing Administration which has 7 years of failure under its belt. They are fueling much of the pro-Democrat vote this year, aside from the authentic enthusiasm for Obama himself.
todd
I have an old grandpa fetish, so I will be voting for McCain despite the fact that I disagree with everything he stands for.
M Shane
Of the major dieases which infect the U.S. are (1) Corporatism: NAFTA, the unendurable debt paid to keep the few stock holders wealthy which will cause the market to crash easily, completely.
(2) The Disolution of the balance of powers in the Constitution (Patrick Leahy who know s Obama believes that he will undo FISA when he is in offic ) The fact is that the Justice department serves at the whim of the president as we have seen agaibn znd again. This is historically the worst oral fistfuck the U.S. has ever suffered. The entire department works for BUSH this is worst tragedy to confront the U.S. two Constitutional Scoolars from Harvard just wrote a book as to how the U.S. is virtually dead since the balance of powers is the only guarantee whatsoever that we have of a democracy. That is what the constitutionis about. The Congress is at the presidents beck and call since the lobbies pressured them into giving over to him their exclusive power to declare war This is a ONE ARMED GOVERNMENT with the president having sign over the power to decrare martial law for NO REASON (Patriot Act 2006). The Congress and judiciary are atrophied literally completely.
(3) The Militarization of the U.S. : Obama wants to stop fighting this constant run of wars we have had since WW2 as the agressor and take care of our own problems.
M Shane
Item (3) above, ought beter be understood as that we need to stop making the aquisition of other peoples resouces our main national object, because it makes the maintainance of an easily adaptable junta in the U.S. probable.
We have been warned bty nearly every leader from Washington to Eisenhower that the maintenance of a “standing army” , the building of an empire(which we have virtually) is our greatest achilles heel.
M Shane
we have all the makings of a Dictatorship; and that’s not the working of a rich imagination.
