Sen. Dick Durbin, the Democratic majority whip from Illinois, has no idea whether lawmakers will get around to repealing DADT next year, repeating earlier “too busy” excuses. To be fair, HRC did give Democrats until 2017 to do so. (via TR)
A DADT Repeal In 2010? No Idea, Says Leading U.S. Senator!

2017? Seriously? I didn’t know that. Dude, I’m not even gonna be living here by then! How many people who want to serve and be open will have aged out of the opportunity by then? What bull.

Well hey, that’s fine. I have no idea if I’ll get around to voting in the mid-terms. I might be too busy watching Law & Order reruns.

President Obama has squandered his first year in office by not leading on LGBT issues. According to this article congress does not want to take on any controversial issues which means us.

How long are we supposed to wait for President Obama to start LEADING the party he is the leader of?
Steve
Obama has absolutely no intention of leading on gay issues. That “Fierce Advocate” stuff was just BS to get votes.
Dick Durbin has absolutely no intention of leading on gay issues, either. He wants the credit for occasional crumbs that fall on the floor, but he won’t lift so much as one finger to make anything happen.
They both assume that gays will continue to vote for Democrats because the Republicans are so much worse.
The part they are both missing is, if the Democrats don’t actually do anything for gays, there is absolutely no reason for any gays to vote for any Democrats.
If they want my support in 2010 or 2012, they will have to earn it by actually filling some promises. I want to see both DADT and DOMA repealed before 2012.
I have begun supporting “Progressive” candidates. A few seats lost because of Progressive third-part challengers will wake the Democrats up. It’s ok for a Republican to sit in a seat for a few years, if the Democrat would have voted the same way on the things that I care about.

The GOP Candidate in Illinois is Mark Kirk for Senate (for Burris’ seat). He’s probably no less likely to advance DADT repeal than Burris. Lets let Durbin know that we wont bother to support any DSCC candidates till the Senate Democrats pass ENDA and repeal DADT.
Make the Dems fight for us to show up. I’m only giving money to openly Gay candidates in 2010.

Make 2010 the year of ABD: Anyone But Democrats.
Dickhead Durbin is a scumbag. He compared our troops to Nazis and Soviet gulag guards, and selling out gay and lesbian soldiers is just par for the course for this Breedercrat Party political hack.

@4 Steve: “They both assume that gays will continue to vote for Democrats because the Republicans are so much worse.”
How are they so much worse? They can’t control their own party, or they wouldn’t have allowed Sarah Palin to sabotage pro-gay marriage Republican Dede Scozzafava in NY-23, which allowed an anti-gay marriage Democrat to take the seat.
Take away the gay rights issues and Democrats share none of my beliefs. I oppose any government involvement in industry (including the medical industry) other than the prosecution of criminal behavior. Democrats apparently don’t. I oppose any infringements on the right to bear arms, a right which especially benefits gays. I can’t say the same about Democrats. I support the War on Terrorism and all wars against homophobic terror-ocracies. The Democrats? Not so much. I consider the government’s attempts to improve the social welfare through government programs a failure. Democrats want to pour money down the hole, although Bill Clinton did pass welfare reform.
Maybe if you tried putting pressure on members of BOTH parties, we might not be third class citizens.
Nothing they do will get them my support to begin with. I was an ex-Democrat long before I ever heard the name “Barack Obama”, and I will not swallow the rest of their agenda just because I’m gay.
