Today, December 1, is World AIDS Day, a chance for people the world over to commemorate not only those that have passed from, but those who continue to live with the virus. And for the global community to unite in the fight to end HIV/AIDS.
We’re taking a look at the history of World AIDS Day, conceived in August 1987 by public officials from the World Health Organization’s Global Programme on AIDS and observed for the first time in 1988.
December 1 was chosen to give just enough time between the election (1988 was after all an election year) and the holiday season.
