While the European Commission folds to Poland’s anti-gay ways, the British Embassy in Warsaw plans on fighting the good fight. Ambassador Ric Todd told the press that he and his colleagues plan supporting equality in any way they can:
The UK remains committed to promoting the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people overseas.
This small gesture is a symbol of the British Embassyâs commitment to equality and acceptance for all.
This weekendâs Pride March will be a celebration of diversity in Poland, Europe and beyond. I particularly hope participants traveling from the UK will enjoy the festivities.
The embassy in Riga raised the rainbow flag during last week’s contentious gay pride march.
That move – and Todd’s – are part of a larger movement by the British government, which this year sent out hundreds of LGBT Toolkits: packets with information on gay rights the world over and reiterate that “the UK will lobby and will engage the support of other governments, especially EU membersâ.

I really admire the UK for doing this. In fairness, Britain is miles and miles ahead of most countries in terms of gay rights. I think they are even the first country to do this?
This is why it’s so worrying that the Conservatives are gaining ground in the UK. If Labour is ousted, gay rights will no longer be a priority.

Fantastic!! Now we need to see the same heavy support of gay rights in OTHER parts of the World where Great Britain has significant influence…Like, say, UGANDA, JAMAICA, etc

Unless I’m mistaken Riga is the Capital of Latvia. But wherever they did it, lets hear it for Britain!

I have to say, I am so proud of my adopted home! Who cares if it is absurdly expensive, the weather is a bit iffy, and the trains run late. I love Britain! Way to set an example. My British boyfriend is now wetting himself with laughter, given the amount I normally winge about the UK! đ Priorities afterall!
Would not worry about the tories too much, the entire front bench is practically gay. I think they’ve evolved…well, most of them have.

I wouldn’t worry about the Conservative party gaining power in the next general elaction. None of the main political party over here in Britain objected to the introduction of Civil Partnerships; and they are bending over backwards to change their image and appeal to the pink vote. At leat one of their shadow cabinet is gay, and David Cameran (the leader of the Con’s) will be attending his Civil Partnership. As for the Labour party. They’ve done great things over the last ten years – but they’ve lost their way, are deeply unpopular. This country is ready for a change – but that doesn’t mean that we should not recognize their past achievements and make sure that they are built upon.
