A Republican Grows In Maryland

In Maryland, former Senate Minority Leader Allan Kittleman, a Republican, says he’ll break with his party and vote to legalize same-sex marriage, and testify in support of it in committee. (His reasons? “I wanted to ensure that same sex couples had the same rights and responsibilities as married couples in Maryland; I wanted to remove the government’s intervention in what most Marylanders consider a religious institution (marriage); and I wanted to develop a consensus on an issue that has been very divisive for many years.”) And now the state’s Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown says he’s on board. These developments, like, totally guarantee Maryland is going to get The Marriage.
