Accused Cannibal Killer Luka Magnotta Pleads Not Guilty To Murdering, Dismembering Lover

Yesterday, gay-porn performer Luka Magnotta pleaded not guilty to charges that he dismembered his lover and mailed the dead man’s body parts to schools and political party offices.

Magnotta, 29, was arrested in a Berlin cafe earlier this month, and was extradited to Canada Monday under tight security. He’s now being held in a Montreal detention center.

The charges against Magnotta including first-degree murder, defiling a corpse, threatening the Canadian prime minister and using the mail system for delivering “obscene, indecent, immoral or scurrilous” materials.

In May, a package containing a severed foot was discovered a the headquarters of Canada’s Conservative Party, the same day a hand was discovered in a package meant for the country’s Liberal Party. Video emerged of a perpetrator defiling and eating Jun Lin, 33, a a computer-science student at Concordia University. Lin’s torso was found locked inside a suitcase in a lot near Magnotta’s apartment building.

Magnotta’s attorney, Pierre Panaccio, has requested that his client be evaluated by a psychiatrist to determine his criminal responsibility. A decision is expected to be announced on Thursday.

According to the AP, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said Tuesday that China was monitoring developments and hoped that there would be justice to give “the victim a result that can have him rest in peace.”
