You may not know the name Jake Picking yet, but you will soon. Ryan Murphy just cast the 28-year-old to play Rock Hudson in the Netflix limited series Hollywood, per Deadline.
Hudson, of course, is one of the best known screen idols of the 1950s and 1960s, thanks to such films as All That Heaven Allows, Giant, and Pillow Talk.
He kept his sexuality private, the public only learning he was gay after he revealed his HIV diagnosis in 1985, two months before he died from AIDS-related complications.

Picking is still an up-and-comer who has appeared in the films Goat, Blockers, Sicario: Day of the Soldado. You’ll also see him in next summer’s Tom Gun: Maverick.

Murphy calls the series a “love letter to the Golden Age of Tinseltown,” so you can expect other actors playing real-life stars from days of yore.

Details on the project are scarce, but the cast also boasts frequent Ryan Murphy collaborators Darren Criss, Jim Parsons, Dylan McDermott, and Joe Mantello — as well as Patti LuPone, Holland Taylor, Jeremy Pope, David Corenswet, Samara Weaving, Maude Apatow, and Laura Harrier.
Even better news? Production on the series is already underway.

Good looking kid but, to me, he doesn’t embody the same masculine sex appeal Rock Hudson did
russellhm
I agree. The build is correct and the general stance and appearance but the eyes miss something and that’s what leads me to agree. Hudson had that come hither look that was natural.

It’s called acting.

Couldn’t have said it better.

I can see him as Rock Hudson. Plus I have faith in Ryan Murphy to deliver the goods.

Good point!
They know their business better than I!

I can’t say I have much faith in Murphy. The two best things he’s been a part of- the first season of American Crime Story and the first season of Pose- had very little writing input from him. And I didn’t love those things as much as some did. I just haven’t loved a single project of his and have been very disappointed in quite a few of his ventures. But he keeps doing his thing and remaining un-annoying and unproblematic. So, there’s no real reason to hate.

Does he have big beautiful feet like the late Rock Hudson? I am asking for a friend.
mikeTigg
No…he has hooves.

No where near the hottness or just plain old handsomness. I cant believe they couldn’t have done better. Nothing classic about the looks of Jake. Good looking ‘boy’ not MAN. SAD SAD SAD no boner over this one.

He will have to be an exceptional actor to carry this off. Hudson wasn’t a good actor but he was charming with unexpected great comedy timing. This guy is very modern pretty looking instead of having the classic 50s-60s masculine look of Hudson. I hope he does the role justice but these movie and tv recreations of famous actors rarely work. I’ll hope for the best.

Could not agree more, on all points

dhmonarch89
he’s handsome, but I don’t see Rock Hudson.
Rock-N-RollHS
Looks like a lot of frat boys, and not even that good looking. Boring. But gorgeous icons always impossible to cast. Let’s hope he can act . . .
PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS
I’ll take one to go, no need to wrap I plan on eating here
:-p

I like his hotness. I think with hair and makeup he’ll be fine. I look forward to catching his acting and checking out his screen chops.
Dymension
Doesn’t remotely resemble Rock Hudson. Too boyish-looking. Rock was a man’s man.
ShowMeGuy
“Rock was a man’s man.”
Literally ! ! ! ! !
