Actor Jason Caceres of ‘Insatiable’ on the beauty & benefit of getting sweaty

This post is part of a series of Queerty interviews with models, trainers, dancers, and, well, people who inspire us to stay in shape–0r just sit on the couch ogling them instead.

Name: Jason Caceres, 29

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Occupation: I am an actor. I’ve been on shows such as Criminal Minds, Insatiable on Netflix and Kidding on Showtime. I do some modeling and social media on the side but it’s not my focus at the moment. Although I am open to new ventures.

Favorite Gym: I work out at LA Fitness and it fits my workout schedule at the moment so I’m good.

Favorite Exercise Playlist: I play anything Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, Demo Lovato. I love working out to a good, powerful diva playlist. It pumps me up and makes me feel like I could take over the world.

Favorite Workout Food: I try not to eat anything heavy before the gym. Typically, I’ll have my coffee when I wake up because if not there’s no getting me out of bed. Then, I’ll head straight to the gym and drink a protein shake as I’m working out. A biology teacher once told me that the best time to work out is right before breakfast because you’ll get the most results from your workout. So that’s what I do at the moment.

Favorite Workout Outfit: I like working out in clothes that are as freeing as possible. A comfy pair of loose basketball shorts and a cut up tank top are usually my go-to. My goal at the gym is to sweat as much as possible so I try to avoid tight clothes that’ll stick to my skin and create discomfort.

How do you balance staying in shape and having fun?

Haha! Very poorly. I wake up pretty early to go to the gym and have enough time to get through my to-do list that day so usually, by the time night hits, I’m practically dead. If I know I’m going to stay out a bit later then I try to sleep in a bit and work out a little lighter like maybe a nice hike with friends or a few laps in the pool. I just try to maintain a life as active as possible.

What’s a basic, if useful, work out tip you can offer?

Move your body for at least an hour a day in my opinion. It doesn’t have to be an intense workout as long as you’re doing something to elevate your heart rate a bit and get some sweat going. We live such sedentary lives nowadays that we don’t realize we spend much of our time sitting down. Go for a walk, take a dance class, ride a bike. It doesn’t matter as long as you’re moving.

What do you keep on your nightstand?

It’s a very basic list. My phone and phone charger. That’s pretty much it aside from my bedside lamp.
