Uh … as expected. BUT HE WAS IN THE BOTTOM THREE! Scary. So who got kicked out? That Matt Giraud guy, two weeks after the judges saved him. [E!]

Do I dare say I was pleasantly surprised to see Adam in the bottom 2? Maybe he’s not as popular as people think. It’ll be Adam and Chris in the final.

As long as that pastor-in-waiting Gokey doesn’t take the crown, i don’t care who wins.
james p. p.
He was only in the bottom two to shock people into voting for him. this way it eliminates any complacency to vote for him by the public as he is clearly the front runner and the AI favorite (please… no one else gets those lighting cues and stage set-up).

I love me some Lambert, but I can sort of see how he was in the bottom two.
First and foremost, it’s that time in the season when the obvious frontrunner has to fall victim to complacency on the part of the voters. We’re just lucky it wasn’t a repeat of the Melinda Doolittle travesty.
Second, I am convinced that “Feeling Good,” while one of my favourite songs ever, is cursed as far as AI goes. To the best of my knowledge, everyone who’s ever performed it has been eliminated the same week. If that is the case, then Adam broke the curse.
Third, Danny Gokey, the “safe/wholesome” guy with the dead wife (let’s not forget!) had an unterrible week for the first time in a while.
I’m gonna go with James P.P.’s assessment on Adam being in the bottom for “shock value” as well. I think it will have the intended effect, which would be reminding people to vote for him next week.
While I still consider Adam not only the front-runner, but also the most talented contestant in the history of the program, we’ve finally reached the stage where this is anyone’s competition to win. I do believe the final two will be Adam and Kris, but it wouldn’t shock me to see Danny edge Kris out of the running (Deserved or not). From here on out, it will only take one bad performance to eliminate someone with a sizeable following. No matter what happens between now and the finals, a lot of people are going to be disappointed every week.

I have said since day one it will be Kris Allen and Adam Lambert in the finals and I am sticking to that prediction. Both are excellent and distinctive artists in their own way.
Slider
oops..that is Chris Allen….sorry for the typos.
vernonvanderbilt
@Slider: If only Kris weren’t so “cute guy with a guitar” dull. I think he’s prettier than Adam, but Adam is by far the better entertainer, in my opinion. Then again, all the way back in Hollywood week, when Simon was talking about Adam being “too theatrical” (AI code for “too gay”) I remember thinking to myself…”What’s wrong with theatrical?” What can I say? I love a good show.

Vernon
you need to turn that wonderful mind of yours to more important matters.
vernonvanderbilt
@Licky: I like to think I do. Surely I can be permitted a couple of hours each week to indulge a more vapid interest, can’t I? We all need to permit ourselves to get a little dumb once in a while. It keeps us sane and gives our brains a deserved rest.
Slider
Vernon….I agree with you and if Adam were str8 they would say he were a rocker…and rock stars put on a show..I do hate when they use that “too theatrical” code words for “gay”…..both Kris and Adam have different styles….Adam is the entertainer/rocker and does best in my opinion when he gets subtle and strips down his voice to show the vulnerable side….I still think both will be in the finals…..torn as to who should win because I think Kris has a purer voice but Adam is the better entertainer and also has an amazing voice and he will either be 1st or 2nd…since I think he is the over better entertainer and that is what sells records and fills the seats at concerts he should win….Kris will do just fine (he is more the Sade type singer..mellow, jazzy/soul sweetness to his voice that I enjoy and yes he is sweet, prettier eye candy in his own way and Adam is trying for that rocker Elvis vibe which works for him quite well…
let’s face it American Idol screwed up with the likes of Chris Daughtry and ended up booting him and that moron Taylor Hicks won…so Adam could end up being cut….but you notice that the producers always put him last so you watch the entire show so my guess is they think he is a winner for ratings for them and hopefully they can get their homophobia out of the way and Simon cares more about cash and selling tickets since he gets them on his record label…..so if he is smart he will want Adam to win…remember he used Chris Daughtry (he has him on his record label) the next year for the send out song and it helped sell a zillion records….and Daughtry got a Grammy nomination and sold a zillion CDs…….Taylor Hicks not so much!
vernonvanderbilt
@Slider: First, a confession of sorts: I totally voted for Taylor Hicks that entire season. Yes, I liked him. That’s also the last season I voted in. Because his debut album was so awful, I decided that it wasn’t worthwhile to try to vote for a winner anymore.
Also, I hated Daughtry then, and I loathe him even more now. The only thing worse than nu-metal is probably nu-metal lite.
As far as the post-Idol careers go, I do think both Kris and Adam will do just fine, provided 19 Entertainment stays out of the way where Adam is concerned and takes a firmer hand where Kris is concerned. Kris’ only real drawback (and he’s improving each week, but he’s not there yet) is song choice. Right now, he’s talented but inconsistent.
I don’t want to rule out Danny Gokey, though. He’s someone who appeals to the middle-aged housewife set, not to mention christians and “I have a dead spouse, too” folks. I generally find him horrendous, but this week he did show that he can stop sucking once in a while. I don’t want him to win (I’d prefer if he were the next elimination) but he very easily could.
As far as Alison goes, vocally she’s the true second place performer in the competition. However, she’s only 17, and so is prone to 17-year-old mistakes on occasion. She’s a little less consistent than Kris is as far as song choice goes, and that’s what could hurt her at this stage in the game. I like her, but she hasn’t really blown me away since way back near the beginning when she performed Heart’s “Alone.” Still, I wouldn’t rule her out just yet, if only due to the “female factor,” being the only gal left in the competition. You know she’s got the girl power vote pretty much sewn up. The question is, in Alison’s case, will female solidarity be able to overcome libido?

@natt: @natt: ditto

@Slider: no it’s Kris

Here’s my 2 cents:
I agree that Adam kinda’ deserved to be in the bottom 2. I think he tried too hard – that is, he was trying to pretend to be Frank Sinatra or some such rat packer, and came off pretentious; although I don’t think he intended that at all. Unfortunately his timing for making a mistake wasn’t good but thank God Matt’s close-ups were bad.
As for indulging in AI every week, what’s wrong with being excited about a talented gay man maybe winning the whole thing…that’s why I’m watching…talented AND gay.
As far as succeeding in the recording industry, I think it all comes down to good song writing, and production values, along with the talent, of course.
Unfortunately, Danny’s big following will only get bigger as the audience grows. White-straight-Christian-preacher-my-wife-is-dead is very appealing to people. AND, it’s true, he sang better this week then he has for a long time. He is VERY limited, though. I think Kris has more potential. Adam has so many more options; he will make a lot of money, I think, no matter what he does.
