A humorous tweet on how to deal with an LGBTQ-phobic family member has gone viral.

In just over seven hours, it’s had over 100,000 likes and 15,000 retweets.
Of course, the subject of so-called conversion therapy is a serious matter. The dangerous, if not deluded practice, has been banned on minors in several US states and countries. Attempting to change someone’s sexual orientation or gender identity through counseling or other psychological means will not work and is likely to cause harm.

That said, most of those commenting on the tweet appreciated the pre-holidays joke.

And what if the relative you’re talking to doesn’t speak English at all????
They’d have no idea what “seen the light” means or “there are classes but they’re expensive” means. What’s a person to do!?! There’s literally nothing you can do but give up.
I mean there’s no way for anyone to adjust their words to accommodate the person they’re talking to because the joke.. I mean… tactic can’t be altered in the slightest even though words in twitter posts are known to be limited/shortened because of the character limit, right?

Of course Jaboukie Young-White is not just a “Twitter user.” He’s a professional stand-up comic and correspondent for The Daily Show with nearly a half-million Twitter followers. Stands to reason his tweets would get some attention. That said, he’s a very clever comedian and I enjoy his spots on the show.
