Whatever happened to Natalie Merchant? She used to be so uber-famous, but the former 10,000 Maniacs singer hasn’t been very vocal in recent years. Too bad, too, because we always loved her. Yeah, we know that’s sort of lame to admit, but whatever, Merchant rules and we miss her.

Thus, we readily agreed when a reader – a lesbian reader – asked us to feature Ms. Merchant. Above you can watch “Ophelia,” the titular single from Merchant’s 1998 solo album. We’ve also included “My Skin” from the same album. As if that’s not enough, we dug up a live version of 10,000 Maniacs singing “Hey, Jack Kerouac”. You know, just for shits…
