We recently shared Alaska Thunderfuck‘s YouTube video ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 76’, where she addressed the controversy of the show’s ‘she-mail’ controversy. Now, in a podcast interview on Feast of Fun, she shares why she removed the video and issues an apologizes for hurting peoples’ feelings.

The interview features Parker Marie Molloy who the Advocate.com writer who has been credited with bringing the controversy into mainstream media. About 32 minutes into the podcast, Alaska calls into the show and apologizes:
I want to apologize for the video. I put it out and I don’t know what my headspace was or what my reasoning was. There are many ways that you can justify art that you put out there, but I don’t want to just justify it because I actually listened to what people responded to it, and that’s why everyone’s saying it’s controversial. People were responding it and there were telling me how they felt about it, and I gave it a weeks time and I was like I’m going to actually listen to what people are saying. I’m not just going to blindly do this. I wanna was listening to how people felt about it, and I realized that it was hurting peoples’ feelings. I don’t know if it’s just like I’ve been reading a lot of Buddhist literature lately, but I don’t know. I fell like I want to be in a world and in a community where we can be kinder to one another because that’s never gonna hurt, you know, being kinder to one another. That will start with myself, so I was like forget it I’m taking this down. I’ve taken it down and I posted a response video, which is ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 77’, which was two characters that were in the other video, but it’s a year later and they’re getting along and they’re living in harmony. That’s what I would like to see for us.”
Molloy thanks Alaska for her apology and they hosts continue the conversation. Listen to the full podcast to hear the rest of what they discuss.
