After twenty-five years in the closet, a Methodist pastor has decided to reveal to her parish that she’s in a long-term, committed lesbian relationship.
In a sermon to the Edgerton United Methodist Church in Edgerton, Kansas, Rev. Cynthia Meyer came out in front of her entire church (which is just a few towns over from the Westboro Baptist Church.)
In the speech, Meyer, the former Assistant Dean of Students for the Candler School of Theology at Emory University, explained to the crowd that she’s no longer willing to hide who she really is.
“I remained single through 20 years of my ministry, then a few years ago a wonderful relationship began to develop.”

Thanks for coming out. It helps others more than you’ll ever know.

Your headline is incorrect. She’s been in the relationship for a few years of a 25 year-long period in the ministry.
“… then a few years ago a wonderful relationship began to develop.”

This woman belongs to that oppressive, gay-hating spaghetti monster loving institution that all gay men hate, you know it, the christian church. so, right away she represents hatred, oppression, pedophilia, and all that. why is there a kumbaya story entitled “keep the faith” about her? we hate this woman for advancing and representing the church who wants to destroy gays. god, can you get this straight please?
and WTF did the illiterate writer get the idea she was in a 25 year relationship? she wasn’t. oh shit people, oh shit.

@o.codone: Why do you think gay men would hate the church. Maybe because so many within the “churchly” community are calling for the execution of all gay people. Not all Christians feel that way but the loudest voices are very hate filled. All you have to do is listen to all the ratings of Shoebat, Graham, Brian Brown, KKK affiliate tony Perkins, et.al on YouTube to get the picture. They are constantly calling gay men pedophiles and rapists when all the pedophilia and raping are being done by all the conservative “gawd fearing” people. Being raped by my catholic school counselor while I was in sixth grade (that’s 12 years old) was all the indoctrination I needed to begin hating the church. You don’t need organized religion to have spirituality. Today’s conservative Christians are the same people that crucified Christ 2000 years ago. It’s just a coat of a different color. (Sorry, had to plug the wizard there).

@Harley: That’s nice. I have a cat named Harley.

@Harley:
“Today’s conservative Christians are the same people that crucified Christ 2000 years ago.”
That is an absurd statement.
Jesus, like all other observant Jews of His day, condemned homosexuality. And no where does it say in the Bible that He approved of it. He even said, “I have come to fulfill the Law [of Moses], not abolish it.” You are blinded by your sexual addiction. Accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior today.

James Hart, Christ never said one word about us. He did speak of divorce, however, so why are the thumpers not wailing about divorce? You can believe whatever the Hell you want, just don’t push your religious beliefs into civil laws.
