Netflix has been gaying it up lately.
In February, it was announced that Ryan Murphy will bring two new series to the platform.
Then this month, the network announced a new teen comedy called Alex Strangelove about a high school senior coming to terms with his sexuality.
In addition to that, it’s been regularly shutting down homophobic and transphobic trolls on Twitter.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.

Now it’s Amazon’s turn.
The streaming giant has just added dozens and dozens of LGBTQ films that screened at Outfest in L.A. to Amazon Prime.
The films were published to Prime Video directly by their filmmakers or rights-holders, who will collect royalties based on customer viewing time.
Some of the titles include comedies Women Who Kill and all of the Eating Out films, as well as Sinner In Mecca, winner of the 2015 Outfest Grand Jury Award for documentary, Open, the first American film to win the Teddy jury prize at the Berlin Film Festival, and cult classic G.B.F.
Founded by UCLA students in 1982, Outfest remains the one of the largest LGBTQ film festivals in the world.
“These are challenging times for many and reports of violence against LGBTQ citizens are on the rise,” said Outfest executive director Christopher Racster.
He continues, “I still believe, though, in the power of our stories to change that narrative… It is a relationship like this with Prime Video Direct that will carry our stories across the widest network and reach the most individuals.”

Well…..I think this is quite interesting. Guess Netflix and Amazon are going to give the Gay TV Channel a run for its money. Actually, I think it is fantastic. It just shows that gays are being recognized in the world more and more. This kind of TV could NEVER have happened when I was growing up in the 50s and 60s. ‘Ozzie and Harriet’ didn’t even sleep in the same bed, yet they had two sons. Yeah. It was the same for ‘Father Knows Best’. What can I say?

The “Gay TV Channel,” Logo, doesn’t even show gay stuff anymore. Even Drag Race left it for VH1.

So…they just licensed a bunch of old gay films directly from the creators? What exactly does this have to do with Outfest other than them putting their name on it? Seems like a kind of cynical play to make Outfest more “with it” (we’re not irrelevant, we’re streaming!) and Prime to seem more pro-gay (they probably would have licensed these titles anyways). They still have less LGBTQ movies than netflix and, like netlfix, these titles are all old and tired…

Someone didn’t do their research carefully enough. Most of these films, like the Eating Out series and G.B.F, (to tie into the original post), have been available on Amazon Prime for quite a while. I personally watched Eating Out Drama Camp a couple of months ago.

Not on Amazon UK we don’t, we do get unwatchable Water Bearer Films badly scanned, incorrect aspect ratio, interlaced tat though…

Any new movies or TV shows, Amazon?

Amazon being gay-friendly lately? Please… might I remind everyone about Amazon letting ‘straight pride’ badges be sold on their site?
Amazon being gay friendly? I think not.
At least they aren’t as bad as iTunes though… there are hardly any gay movies on iTunes – at least on the New Zealand iTunes store. It may be different for other countries.

Like others mentioned, this list is “old”. Most of these have been out on Prime for quite a while, I think. And a couple I watched — or tried to watch — were so bad I couldn’t. Not a very good representation when the only positive critic is that the movie has “gay” attached to it. IMO Perhaps it’s just a matter of taste?

They get a these little films, but some of the bigger lgbt films like Beautiful Thing, Trick, etc… are not on there. I think they’ve finally gotten a few lesbian films like Raven’s touch, but it’s weird how many still aren’t on there.
