CNN’s token gay Anderson Cooper may not talk about his sexual preference on air — not even when sexuality is in the news, OMG! — but his on-air attention to bears and interest in sex acts (“It’s hard to talk when you’re teabagging”) should clue you in. As should this “The Shot” segment on presidential abs. Sly, Fox.

This is as out as Anderson’s going to get.
The picture of the President had to be photoshopped because *something* was a little too prominent from what I could tell.

Cooper’s not gay. He MIGHT be a homosexual. But to be GAY, you have to have the balls to say you are gay.
adam
Anderson isn’t CNN’s token gay. They have plenty of closeted gays. You guys just only talk about Anderson and out Anderson. Now you are straight out pretending he’s the only CNN gay instead of simply ignoring the others – that’s damaging to gay visibility.
rrr
@Oaklander: You are gay if you are a guy attracted to males. You don’t have to know what homosexuality is, acknowledge your sexuality to yourself, tell your friends about it, or put out a press release in order to qualify as gay. That’s why little kids and penguins can be gay.
There is a distinction between out/glass closeted/totally closeted. There is not a distinction between homosexual/gay.

I am not sure if he is trying to drop hints or his producers and co-anchors are just having fun with him.
Token gay doesn’t make sense- that implies he is there predominantly because he is gay- he is there because he cute, rich, and to some degree a talented journalist.

@rrr: There is a distinction for me. A man having sex with a man who has the safety of position and living here, who hasn’t the balls to say so is just a homo to me. I EARNED “gay”.
Brianna
@Mark M:
I think that’s just bizarre reasoning. I agree with RRR.
gay = homosexual, male or female
lesbian = gay/homosexual woman
rrr
@Mark M: So Cooper was a gay embryo, a gay kid, a homosexual when he lost his virginity with a man, gay again when he came out to his friends and family and employers, then went back to being a homosexual when somebody asked him about his sexuality and he said “no comment”?. But if he temporarily leaves the country to someplace he’s not safe he reverts back to being gay for the duration of the trip then resumes homosexual status on return?
I have to say, that really doesn’t work for me and no one would know what the fuck you’re getting at if you said “oh, he’s a homosexual now, not gay anymore”.
We already have separate definitions for “gay” and “out” that work fine. If you want to meld both meanings into the one word “gay” suddenly it’s going to lead to a lot of pointless confusion.

I am not articulate enough, obviously. In my bumbling way I am complaining about closet cases, and refusing to grant them the say gay-pride that I wear.

I see him almost daily (when he is in NY) at a gay gym in Chelsea. I don’t know him, but he does not seem to me to be a closet case. He simply doesn’t advertise his sexuality in his professional life. Plenty of other people do the same, including many in the public eye. So what is the problem? He actually comes across as pleasant, unpretentious, warm. Leave him be.
