Our signature silver-haired newscasting fox Anderson Cooper is soon to be inducted into the Marvel Universe in the upcoming Black Widow #12 due in November.
Cooper’s TV show will play a prominent role in the plot, acting as a catalyst for a “major event in Black Widow’s story.”
Comic writer Nathon Edmonson added:
“We imagine that in Black Widow’s world, as would be the case with many other Avengers, things she does can’t be ignored by the media and all it takes is somebody who knows how to ask the right questions to make her world very uncomfortable for her but in a way that is perhaps not unjust.”
According to the online Marvel wiki Marvel Database, there are currently 98 gay-identified characters that have graced the glossy pages of Marvel comics.

This is actually 97 Dorrek VIII is Theodore Altman. I only realized because i was confused on why the Hulkling pic was of him as Capt. Marvel.
KamQueer
@jogproof: He’s right. Dorrek VIII is Teddy Altman, aka Hulkling. The picture for Dorrek VIII is the future Teddy in a proposed future universe.
jogproof
@KamQueer: eup and i find it funny that the pic is if i recall correctly one of the like 3 shots of him in that book. but if they want 98 then add Loki to the list and you can even have this picture to use. its from Agent of Asgard =P https://fireden.net/4chan/images.4chan.org//co/src/1404179451299.jpg
Pistolo
A lot of these characters are VERSIONS of the mainstream continuity characters so there are some like Elektra and Colossus who aren’t actually gay. What I wonder is why Shatterstar isn’t included? Him and Rictor had the first gay kiss! He’s actually bi though much like Mystique.
jogproof
@Pistolo: oh bugger i forgot about Shatterstar. But i will say although he is only gay in the ultimate comics it is the best version of Colossus and i like his romance with Northstar.
hamoboy
This whole list is badly done. Half these characters are minor one-shots, and even some pretty famous main characters are listed wrongly, like Teddy Altman. Why doesn’t the author link to whatever sources portray each character as being LGBT? There should be fewer characters, and more time and attention spent on them, like what issues of what comics they appear in, whether they’re in relationships or not, whether they’re popular. I know for sure Hulkling and Wiccan and really popular with comics fans my age when we were teenagers.
pewpew
@hamoboy agreed. I don’t think minor characters or alternate versions of mainstream characters should count. A big list like this undermines the fact that there’s still very few lgbt characters in comics.
With that said, when did Miss America come out? I thought she just had lesbian moms and wasn’t lesbian herself.
Nuttypea
I guess you don’t count as gay until after you come out, my pastor will be pleased… :^)
newfoundma
@pewpew: Miss America was revealed as gay during the last issue of the most recent Young Avengers series. She commented that she felt like being a cliche for kissing one boy and realizing she was a lesbian. I’m surprised David Alleyane (Prodigy) from the Young Avengers was left off this list. He’s declaratively bisexual.
