CRUDE Awakening

Another Classy Movie Filmed On Famous “King’s Speech” Porn Set

Last year as The King’s Speech was headed towards its coronation at the Academy Awards, eagle-eyed gay-porn fans realized that a series of pivotal scenes between King George VI and speech pathologist Lionel Logue (at top left) utilized a shabby-chic location that also happened to be favored by some gay-porn websites (bottom left).

The news titillated the blogosphere and King’s Speech Oscar-winning director Tom Hooper was even asked about it backstage, as he greeted the media clutching his shiny golden statue.

Given all of the hype and hoopla, you’d think the proprietors of London’s 33 Portland Place, a historic 18th-century home where the set can be found, would perhaps briefly retire the space—if not at least repaint the room.

But no! Judging from the photos above—from the trailer for the forthcoming thriller The Awakening, it looks like they’re still using it for British period pieces.

The Awakening—which opens Friday and stars Rebecca Hall, Imelda Staunton and Dominic West—is a post-Victorian ghost story set in 1920s London:

Florence Cathcart (Hall), author of the popular book Seeing Through Ghosts, has devoted her career to exposing the claims of supernatural as nothing but hoaxes. Haunted by the recent death of her fiance, she is approached by Robert Mallory (West) to investigate the recent death of a student at the all-boys boarding school where he teaches.

When students at the school report sightings of the young boy’s ghost, she decides to take on the case. Initially, the mystery surrounding the ghost appears nothing more than a schoolboy prank, but as Florence continues to investigate events at the school, she begins to believe that her reliance on science may not be enough to explain the strange phenomenon going on around her.

Speaking of strange phenomenon, if those walls could talk… Well, they’d probably beg someone to hose them down.
