“Buried on page 795 of President Obama’s budget, released last Thursday, is a paragraph banning the federal funding of needle-exchange programs for drug addicts — an apparent about-face on his campaign promise to overturn that longstanding ban. To the further consternation of AIDS and addiction activists, a statement of support for needle exchange was recently removed from the White House website.” Surely it’s just one of those “periodic changes” that happens to WhiteHouse.gov, right? [Time]
got hope?
Alec
Will you be posting again on his historic first time ever appointmet of an openly gay US attorney subject, of course, to senate approval? I was very happy to hear that news, but for some reason that post has disappeared.
Tony
Obama, same we cannot believe in. Wow. Bush deja vu.
Qjersey
Match Game 2009
Quincey the queer was quixotically perperplexed that Obama has not followed through on his campaign promises. It was 1993 all over again, but instead of Slick Willy we got _________ Barry.
Dabq
@Alec: Too funny, it was old news and incorrect as well like the majority of the Obama threads, and, down it went faster than it was put up, too bad the other mistakes aren’t as well! I guess a fact based article about the big, bad, mean, why did he get elected, homophobic Obama has no place here.
2012 can’t get here fast enough so these posters can vote for Sarah Palin who will set them free from this bondage they seem to be mired in.
Chitown Kev
@Dabq:
Ot take them to Neiman Marcus, in any event.
Dabq
@Chitown Kev: Now that was too funny, best laugh I’ve had all day1
CitizenGeek
Talk about being thrown under the bus ….
Chitown Kev
@Dabq:
Not that this post isn’t a serious issue. The Obama Administration need to be heavily criticized for this, especially as HIV and AIDS is ravaging some African American communities (gay and straight).
But given that queerty has criticized Obama over and over and over, basically rewriting old copy and creating new shit just to criticize, I can understand how people would think this is just another Obama bashing post and it’s not.
CitizenGeek
@Chitown Kev: “Obama bashing”? Queerty is criticisng him for the right reasons. Or is it only okay for Queerty to criticise Republicans now?
Tony
@ CitizenGeek
Didn’t you get the memo? Queerty is racist. Yeah, when Baby Jesus Obamabigot does something we disagree with, we are really only disagreeing with him because we are, you know, racist.
Only white people can be bigots (more details in that memo). When non-whites hate the gays they are merely expressing differing opinions, and to call their hatred hatred, or their bigotry bigotry is to be a racist bigot per se.
Queerty is whitey whitey whitey white. They keep picking on our savior. Now I will drink Kool-Aid with the Obamabots who sparkle sparkle shine.
Praise Obama.
Chitown Kev
“Obama browbeating” may be a better word for it. Criticism of the Obama Administration over, say, DADT or the needle exchange program, or even his view of marriage equality is fine, and I join you in that.
But criticize him over his upcoming trip to Africa, on the other, is petty.
There are plenty of matters of substance to criticize Obama over. But 3,4, 5 posts a day of which maybe 2 have any real substance is ridiculous.
And there’s the aforementioned post about the US attorney that was taken down and has not returned.
Dabq
@Chitown Kev: I agree with you 1000% there are many issues in the glbt community that need to be addressed by Obama with the spread of HIV in his own backyard DC being one of them, and I think they will, but, on this site, the articles are met with posters who are just out of touch with reality and are just so rage filled at the man and anyone who isn’t on their bandwagon, that, it turns into a big joke.
HIV and the black community, is it spread from intravenous drug addicts, or just unsafe sex practices?
Chitown Kev
@Dabq:
All of it. That Obama would do this is shameful really, ESPECIALLY in Washington DC for all the reasons listed above.
Dabq
@Chitown Kev: Like the one about the “black” thing and a trip to Africa, that was as tasteless as all out, and, yet, many defended it as a good thing. Its obvious that more than a few are not happy with Obama, and, that’s cool, but, what needs to be done is a focused attempt to get the message out, and, not the catty, unfunny and not at all witty comments that so many of the posters here like to spew. Give me the days of Act-up when people had a message and took to the streets to get it out instead of screeching on a message board as if anyone in the Obama WH is reading this site and all the insults being hurled.
Chitown Kev
@Dabq:
Agree with you 1000%. Especially on the ACT UP part.
I mean, I’m not happy with Obama for a host reasons (especially the torture issue, LGBT issues, and this wearing the church and religion on his sleeve shit, among other reasons).
Dabq
@Chitown Kev: Thanks, its just amazing to me that the same preachers in DC and PTOUS can sit there and know what’s going on and are silent when people are dying to sexual hang ups and self righteousness of those who are running the show. I guess its true, once they are in DC, they don’t see anything from the limo.
HIV and slowing the spread should be at the top of any gay agenda with this administration, IMO.

KEEP UP THE GOOD REPORTING QUEERTY!!! THE TRUTH IS ALWAYS HARD TO TAKE!!! FOR SOME.
Rhydderch
I think it’s funny how all you queens do is bitch online about how President Obama has been nothing but a disappointment. Damn it hasn’t been 6 months yet 3.5 years to go and all that here is bitchbitchbitchbitchbitch. I’m gay and african american and would like nothing more than to see gays serve in the military and gays getting married. President Obama has not broken any promises, you guys just hate his timeline. Well tough shit! He has the rest his term to fullfill his campaign promises. If he doesn’t, he doesn’t get my vote and shouldn’t get yours either. It seems that in this 24 hour news cycle everyone wants everything yesterday. Besides if Obama repealed DADT what the hell would you guys have to bitch about then? Maybe you’d just go back to attacking Queerty for being over obsessed with twinks.
Mark M
This is a lesson to you, queerty: you have banged the pouting child’s drum for so long that your editorial stance on issues is laughed at. Relevant news item (from 2 weeks ago, well covered in the SFGATE). But we won’t even get into discussing it, just laughing at you.
Mark M
@Rhydderch: Remember– he NEVER promised gay marriage. He doesn’t like gay people. He isn’t breaking promises, he is keeping them.
atdleft
@Dabq & @Chitown Kev: Yes! And more than that, let’s hit the pavement and ORGANIZE, ORGANIZE, ORGANIZE! WTF will we accomplish if all we do is bitch & moan & complain on message boards? As Howard Dean has said before, “Just voting gives you a D.” We need to do more to really make an impact… So why can’t we talk about that here?
Alec
@Mark M: Pretty much correct. I’m laughing at them because this post came along after the factual errors behind a previous post were pointed out (they claimed that the appointment of an openly gay US attorney wasn’t impressive because the nominee wouldn’t be confirmed by the senate, which, of course, is false). This site has lost all credibility on criticism of President Obama which is unfortunate, because there is plenty to criticize.
Lee
@Chitown Kev:
Queerty is hardly perfect, but given the brutality against gays in Uganda, even without the partnership between Obama pallRick Warren and a psychotic Ugandan homohater, the question was a reasonable one to raise, just as the Administration’s silence about gay murders in Iraq.
Further, almost every thread topic of late has followed current events that Queerty didn’t create.
Did they convince Jon Stewart to mock Obama’s DADT continuation? [I’m not even certain they covered Howard Stern’s doing the same, but, regardless, ya think Queerty asked him to?]
How about those challenges day after day by members of the White House press corps about Obama’s mute paralysis on DADT and DOMA because events across the country, AGAIN not initiated by Queerty keep escalating. I don’t see anyone complaining about all their marriage equality posts that DON’T mention Obama.
Etc., etc., etc. Have you checked out other popular gay blogs? Pam Spaulding, JoeMyGod, David Mixner, Towleroad? They are talking about the same things, calling out Obama more and more forcefully, too. It can seem disproportionate at Queerty because they do more updates in a single day than the other sites. But, again, unless you can document that Queerty is making shit up for an excuse to criticize Obama rather than reporting, commenting upon what already exists out there that’s relevant, why are you agree with the Obambots who defend only to defend.
When Queerty does something like, “Obama refuses to wear Calvin’s because he hates fag designers” I’ll complain, too.
In the meantime, the words of Pam Spaulding, a GIGANTIC supporter of Obama over Hillary in the primaries, describe the situation perfectly: “he is getting caught in his own trap.”
It’s hardly Queerty’s fault that something happens almost daily, like this revelation of another promise betrayal in his budget. to set it off.
And, by the way, in the chilling Orwellian Newsspeak that Obama Inc. utilizes more and more, his spokesperson claims that banning funds for needle exchange in his budget is NOT the same as abandoning needle exchange, “but is simply not moving on the issue yet.”
Allowing gays to be discharged when you could easily stop it without Congressional repeal, refusing to help reduce new HIV infections with needle exchange….it’s all in a day’s work in Obamatopia.
Chitown Kev
@atdleft:
Let’s talk about it then, 24/7 bitching does nothing.
That’s why I am reading up of histories of the black civil rights movements and even gay civil rights (ACT UP, etc.); not to learn any pithy comments to to get clued in on strategies, methods, and the rhetoric of protest.
Alec
@Chitown Kev: What are you reading?
Chitown Kev
@Alec:
On that OTHER issue…
I noticed that other activity (linked on another thread) happened before…Hurricane Gustav touched down in Louisiana. Up to that point, insofar as strictly LGBT issues are concerned, “that one” wasn’t an enemy, per se. But once Minneapolis happened…
TANK
Boring! This just expresses utter contempt for the african american community that helped elect him…this is unethical, too. But really, I expect nothing from this guy. Next!
Chitown Kev
@Alec:
I am about a 1/4 of the way through Garrow’s “Bearing the Cross,” a history of King and the SCLC. I had been reading Meb Segrest’s “Memoir of a Race Traitor,” a collection of essays about a white lesbian who organized against KKK activity in North Carolina in the 1980’s. She makes the connections between racism, sexism, and homophobia and makes the case for coalitions with African Americans for LGBT’s.
I left the book somewhere or another, and, as it;’s out of print, I had to order a new used copy from Powell’s.
Chitown Kev
@TANK:
LOL. How’s your honeymoon, Tank? Hope your doing well this evening.
TANK
@Chitown Kev:
What honeymoon, crazypants?
getreal
@TANK: If you don’t expect anything does that mean an end to your incessant bitching about him is in sight lol?
TANK
@getreal:
What incessant bitching, self indulgent, stupid bitch? I haven’t really bitched about obama. More vapid apologetics from the radical obamatons.
Chitown Kev
@TANK:
My bad, old thread, I am just joking…sheeesh…@getreal: good evening
TANK
Oh, afrolito. Put those thoughts to rest. I wouldn’t fuck that used up piece of trash with your dick.
Chitown Kev
@TANK:
It was not necessary to toss the b-word at good real but you are right, you really haven’t criticized Obama that much.
getreal
@Chitown Kev: You can’t joke with him huh? It must be exhausting to be so angry at everyone all the time what a waste of time.
Chitown Kev
@TANK:
Damn, forget I asked, I do still have the occasional bad habit of instigating things….
getreal
@Chitown Kev: The comment seemed sweet and in a joking tone to me. Some people just walk through life in constant state of anger.
Chitown Kev
@getreal:
eh, I can, getreal, besides, it seems the next 20 or so posts on here is going to be a bit of the silly season until we get down to either talking about strategies for organizing and/or buildong coalitions OR we can return to the bitchfest…
Chitown Kev
@getreal:
He got the joke…
atdleft
@Chitown Kev: Oh, I’m not complaining about you! I just can’t understand why Queerty has gone from constructive criticism of President Obama to posting nitpicking screeds that I thought only existed on “Gay Patriot”. Now don’t get me wrong, I do think we SHOULD hold Obama’s feet to the fire. I just don’t get why they don’t, say, mention John Conyer’s bill to repeal DOMA and explain what the situation is in Congress. Why don’t we get beyond the complaining and start making some action?
Chitown Kev
@atdleft:
And EVEN GayPatriot had praise for Obama and his handling of the pirate situation.
Alec
@Chitown Kev: I think McCain was an enemy of LGBT rights. Being better than Bush was hardly a selling point. But, yes, all the donations were during the primary. Still, given that there were no donations at all to Democrats, it seems somewhat suspicious.
@atdleft: I’ve never really understood that phrase, “hold his feet to the fire.” I just find it really funny that, speaking as someone who donated the minimum amount before public reporting kicks in, and as someone who has been fairly critical of a number of his positions since even before the primary, I’ve become a “shill” because I can see that most of this is just whining and imbalanced.
Chitown Kev
@Alec:
Well, McCain was flirtatious with the Log Cabin’s, to be sure, even in 2000. Of course, once he chose the Wasilla cunt all bets were off…I mean, LGBT rights were the least of McCain’s issues.
(And for the record, I still think that it was Mark Buse that delivered all that juicy tea on Sarah Palin to the press. That tea was way too catty not to have come from a gay man, that’s my opinion and I am stcking with it.)
He donated to Bill Richardson also but Richardson believes that being gay is a choice, he was not good on gay issues AT ALL.
But Richardson also endorsed Obama AND is a POC so…
Alec
@Chitown Kev: Ah, fair enough. Richardson. Actually, he wasn’t that bad on LGBT issues until he fell apart during that forum.
Senator McCain campaigned for a state ban on same-sex marriage and civil unions in 2006, and supported a state ban on same-sex marriage (all of them, actually) in 2008. He is opposed to ENDA and I think the hate crimes legislation. He promised to appoint conservative judges. He also promised to revisit his opposition to the federal marriage amendment if a federal court struck down DOMA or a state ban on same-sex marriage or civil unions. This was before he selected the Moose Killer for his VP. So it was always fictional.
He didn’t, however, seem to have any hang ups with gay people on a personal level. Which, for a Republican, I suppose, is saying something.
Chitown Kev
@Alec:
See, once McCain bragged about his 90% voting record agreeing with Bush, I hardly paid attention to anything else the man said. And, of course, McCain 200 was a little different from McCain 2008. A little. Not much.
So, yeah, at least now we think we know where queerty stands. Provided these posts aren’t deleted by morning…lol
Chitown Kev
@Alec:
and appointing conservative judges isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as we’ve found out in California and Massachusetts. It’s all about the litmus test.
Alec
@Chitown Kev: Those judges were selected by a very different breed of Republican. The Party uses the Federalist Society to screen nominees these days, in order to avoid “mistakes.” Particularly at the federal level. Republicans closer to the party’s base (like Governor Engler in Michigan, for example) rarely make that mistake.
It is worth noting, too, that in both cases (MA and CA), the decision was 4-3.
Chitown Kev
@Alec:
Alas…
At least now I know that this is probably the official blog of GOProud nowadays.
Alec
@Chitown Kev: They control everything. Hell, even Manhunt is owned by a gay Republican.
I guess monogamy is optional…
D.C.
Here’s the truth. Come 2012, the gay vote is going to Obama when they see what candidate the Republicans will vote in.
Period.
Alec
@D.C.: Yup. Especially now that Huntsman is out of the running. Not that they would have selected a Mormon, but if he had pulled it off there would have been all sorts of trouble.
With Huckabee I suspect Obama’s share of the gay vote will increase.
Chitown Kev
@Alec:
Wow, no way would the gay community have ever voted for a Mormon. Please.
Yeah, I guess. And I guess these aren’t actual “site trolls” but GOProuders. I say welcome.
But still…make substansive arguments and do fact checking before you post anything. That’s still my primary criticism, and not the political slant, in and of itself.
TANK
Even manhunt?!!!!! NOOOOO!!!!!!!! LMAO! ha ha ha ha ha Maybe there’s something to aids being a republican/ government plot to eradicate gays and minorities…
