Figure Skater Adam Rippon made history last week when he became the first openly gay male to qualify for Team USA in the Winter Olympics, but it looks like he won’t be the only out figure skater at the games.
Canadian pairs Eric Radford and his partner Meagan Duhamel will also be heading to Pyeongchang, South Korea next month.
Radford came out in 2014 at the height of his career. He and Duhamel are three-time defending Canadian pairs champions and won the bronze at the World Championships in both 2013 and 2014.

How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
In a 2014 interview with Outsports, the 32-year-old, 6’2 skating sensation said being gay in figure skating pairs has its advantages. Mainly, there’s no risk of partners falling in love:
A lot of pairs end up dating one another. It can become risky because your on-ice training can be affected by your off-ice relationship. If you have a fight at home, it makes that training difficult. I used to joke around that I’m the ultimate pair-boy. I never had to worry about developing an off-ice relationship.
But before you get too excited, boys, you should know that Radford had a boyfriend. They’ve been together four years and are raising a daughter together. In fact, last summer they engaged!
We’re looking forward to seeing both Rippon and Radford compete in Pyeongchang. In the mean time, check out some more shots from Radford’s white hot Instagram page…

why can’t two male or two female ice dancers skate together?
STS
Probably the physics of it mostly, Couples skating usually involves lots of lifts and acrobatics that work best when one skater is significantly lighter than the other. So it probably could be done, but there would need to be two compatible skaters who wanted to and who’s routine is worthy of a gold medal.
