John McCain sent California’s gay marriage foes an email yesterday backing their unholy mission: “The ProtectMarriage.com campaign says it received an e-mail from McCain Thursday in which the Arizona senator expressed his support for the group’s efforts ‘to recognize marriage as a unique institution between a man and a woman.’ McCain has previously said that while he does not back banning same-sex marriage at the federal level, he thinks it is appropriate for states to do so.” So, Log Cabin, how are your talks with McCain going? He not only thinks it’s appropriate to handle at the state level, but made a television commercial supporting the anti-marriage campaign in Arizona.
Bill Perdue
So he agrees with Obama on this one. I’m not surprised.
Opposition to same sex marriage is the hallmark of christian bigotry. Obama is a christian bigot.
And yes, so are most Congressional Democrats. They gutted ENDA and the Fourth Amendment, voted for DOMA and DADT, dropped the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes bill after it passed both houses. They sent such a clear signal of our second class status that at least half a dozen young GLBT folk have died since. And they support the genocide and its extension, as do Obama and McCain.
To say that Obama’s excused because he fits right into the rancid right-wing politics of the Democratic Party is not exactly a ringing endorsement of the Democrats. The truth is that the Democrats, Obama included, are just as reactionary in the real world as the Republicans. The difference is they lie about being rightwing and the Republicans don’t even bother to lie because nobody’s silly or naive enough to believe them, except the Log Closet dummies. However the same cannot be said for supporters of the Democrats, especially the Stone Closet Democrats.
Voting for any Republican or Democrat, including McCain or Obama, is a vote for war, bigotry and the rapid erosion of our standard of living and the protections of the Bill of Rights.
A Republican is a baboon in a people suit with a theocrat attached at the hip. A Democrat is Republican in drag.

Great, Bill. You just go and enjoy yourself in whatever little fantasy you’ve constructed where politics doesn’t mean making compromises and only the politically pure are viable.
Me, I find it slightly more constructive and rewarding to live in the actual, real world we find ourselves in.
fredo777
How exactly does he “agree with Obama” when McCain doesn’t support any legal recognition of same-sex couples, whatsoever?
Bill Perdue
EMB you didn’t just accidentally end up in the “actual, real world” of genocide, attacks on Bill of Rights, economic collapse and appeasement of bigots. You and other and other Democrats like you created that world.
If the racism begun by the Clintons and now exploited by the Republicans (the Bradley Effect) doesn’t shoot him down Obama will likely win and that will signal the start up of movements to clean up the mess made by intentionally naive voters like yourself.
Fredo777 – get real – civil unions and even civil partnerships = second class citizenship. Even the Republican majority on the California Supreme Court says so and the Chief Justice, who voted with us was appointed by Reagan. Your guy is just another tawdry sellout.
A Republican politician is a rancid right winger with a theorcrat at the hip. Obama is a Republican in drag.
fredo777
Bill, you “get real”.
Regardless of whether you want to call him a “sell out”, there is still a difference btwn. a federal civil union + no legal recognition, whatsoever.
And, frankly, I’m tired of arguing about the whole “he doesn’t fully support same-sex marriage” thing. Sure, I’d love it if he did openly support it. However, knowing full well that he would pretty much be committing campaign suicide by pushing full-on same-sex marriage, — keep in mind, he’s not just running to be Pres. of the more liberal, progressive states, but the whole shebang + that even some more liberal voters don’t support same-sex marriage — insisting that he do so anyway is pretty stupid. It wouldn’t get us anywhere when he lost + certainly wouldn’t do him any good in his campaign (unless, of course, you think winning the favor of all us LGBTs but losing the presidency is a suitable consolation prize for Obama). Somehow, I doubt that he’d be as thrilled to win the former as the latter.
Yes. As you put it, it is time for some of us to “get real”. This is, by far, one of the most openly pro-LGBT pres. candidates I’ve ever seen running in our country (even after you deduct “points” for some of his not-so-pro decisions/actions). Sure, some would argue that it’s all just pandering for votes, but that could still lose him the votes of plenty who aren’t as accepting of us as we’d hope. If you’re not going to vote for anyone who doesn’t push full-on marriage, that’s your right. Do your thing. But don’t lambaste a candidate who has made as much of an effort as he has to include LGBT voters in his campaign speeches, website, etc., solely because he won’t stick his neck out for something that would most probably cost him the election.
This all-or-nothing demand is unreasonable at best, foolish at worst. Like I said, though, it’s your right. Vote for whomever you want to see running this country. Frankly, I’d still prefer Obama to Barr or McCain. Why? Aside from their stance on the issues I find important, Mr. Barr + his flip-flop on The Gays are not impressive to me + McCain (sorry) seems more than a little incompetent, in my honest opinion. I have my share of problems with Obama + Clinton, too, but I’d still prefer to see either of them as POTUS than Pops McCain.

Charles J. Mueller
Along with my wishes to Peter Akinola, virulent hompphobe, I also hope that virulent homophobe McPain’s, dick rots and falls off too since they’d wish nothing less for us.
Charles J. Mueller
And as an afterthought, it’s a sad commentary, indeed, that long after a prick like this who’s dick probably stopped working a long time ago, can still fuck people!
Bill Perdue
Charles, neither Aikinola or McCain have ever worked a day in their lives. Akinola’s an ‘arch’ bishop of the anglican cult and McCain comes from a military family who now has a ‘career’ in national politics, ie, he graduated from murdering Vietnamese in an illegal war to the big leagues.
Now he opposes unions by backing NAFTA like the Democrats and Obama. McCain’s against both socialized medicine and the GLBT equality agenda like the Democrats and Obama. He’s going to extend the war, like the Democrats and Obama. And he panders to christian bigots just like the Democrats and Obama.
What a loser.
Bill Perdue
Fredo777
Obama is going to win and that will destroy the Democrats.
That’s because Obama has the same position as all christian bigots on same sex marriage. It’s the same as McCain, Pat Robertson and Hillary Clinton. It doesn’t matter if he’s for states rights ala George Wallace and second class citizenship ala civil unions. That won’t cut it. We are not second class citizens, and we have the right to marry. Those who oppose us are bigots.
Obama happily denies us the right to marry so he can pander to other christian bigots. Just like the Clintons. Just like McCain. He does it to get their votes and, taking him at his word, because of his superstitious convictions. And lets not hear any bull about how in his secret heart of hearts he agrees with us and will reveal his true pro-GLBT self after he gets elected. The chuckleheads who believe that passed from terminally naive to actively delusional long ago.
Democrats, in spite of their disclaimers, clearly think that getting Obama and a few more Democrats elected is far more important than building mass movements to end discrimination, impose harsh sentences on thugs and winning full SSM equality. They are counterpoised in real life but Democrats are dead wrong about what’s more important. Pushing doorbells for Democrats is actually counter productive. Remember Bill Clinton?
Building a mass movement to defend the California SSM decision is critical on a national basis. If we lose this vote in California we lose everywhere in the US and we lose big time. We have to fight and our fight is not made any easier by the fact that the Democrats have a bigoted position on SSM (let’s not say “weakâ€, let’s tell the truth and call a bigot a bigot).
Just as they did us no favors when they encouraged bigot thugs by junking the Mathew Shepard Hate Crimes bill after it’d passed both Houses of Congress. They certainly didn’t do Lawrence King a favor or any of the others shot and beaten in the months since they (not the Republicans, but the Democrats) killed the Hate Crimes Bill. Nor did they do us any favors when they (not the Republicans, but the Democrats) gutted ENDA and tossed the carcass in the trash. Or when they voted overwhelmingly in favor of DADT and DOMA and then boasted about it in campaign ads.
I can’t see the utility of electing a few more backstabbers but I have witnessed the vast power of unions, the antiwar movement, the voting rights movement, and the prochoice movement. They won victories by compelling politicians, not voting for them and so can we.
fredo777
Bill, I don’t have any romanticized views of Obama (or any other politician, for that matter, be they Dem or Repub). That said, I think it’s far too dangerous to just abstain from voting for the candidate who is more supportive of our rights than not.
Like I said, though, I’m not twisting any arms. Vote for whomever you wish. Or noone, if that’s what does it for you. Going by what I’ve seen from the candidates to date, I’ll stick with Obama for Pres. + (hopefully) Clinton for Veep.
Bridget
Christians are not bigots for their beliefs, we just have moral convictions, marriage is supposed to be between a man and a woman, God created it that way, we only have the right to get married because that is the way God designed it. Children NEED a mother & a father… not 2 Mothers and not 2 Fathers. Having convictions, a belief system, a reverence for God our creator, those aren’t bigoted ideals, they are what we call Faith… Get some… And guess what even though you have wacked out ways of thinking, God still loves you!
