Donald Trump sat down with 60 Minutes last weekend for his first televised interview since winning the election, where he discussed a wide range of topics, including gay marriage.

When asked whether he would rollback marriage equality laws, Trump nonchalantly said that it’s no longer an issue he cares to pursue.
“It’s irrelevant because it was already settled,” he said. “It’s law. It was settled in the Supreme Court. I mean it’s done… these cases have gone to the Supreme Court. They’ve been settled. And… I’m fine with that.”
How about we take this to the next level?

Poor things, they are bound to a big dissapointment. For Trump gay marriage is a battle that is not worthy, he has a lot more to lose than to win, and it will be a total pain in the ass, given the fact that being antigay is not popular right now.
I remember when PP (Our right party) won here with a big majority, some people in the far right and the church expected they would overturn gay marriage. Big mistake, they had absolutely nothing to win (and even more with a couple of prominet figures in the party marrying their same sex partners) and a lot to lose
Realitycheck
Many of Trump promises will not be fulfilled, he has already made a turn around on Obama care and Trump cannot reverse marriage equality, Trump cannot build a wall without 60 votes in the senate and the GOP has only 51, in fact even some republican senators are against the wall.
And flash news, deporting 13 millions people would cause a huge recession, deportation would reduce our population by 4%.
And reversing trade deals will again need congress approval, so lets see hoe many republican congressmen are going to stand by Trump, I suspect not enough.

Well, it’s interesting that the very MOST they dream for is that marriage “goes back to the states.” A little over a decade ago that was considered a very PRO-gay position. (Obama, Biden & Hillary weren’t there yet.) The goalposts have moved a lot.
The evangelicals no longer even talk about a constitutional amendment. That would take 37 states to ratify and by this point there would be way more than 13 states against it.

Hijabs should be worn by every person at Trump’s inauguration. A sea of hijabs amid the pointed hats of the KKK. Nice.

@1EqualityUSA: Have you noticed the Muslim and Arabic names posting those above tweets??? I mean my God, the Muslims are coming, THE MUSLIMS.
Shariah law is indeed coming, but certainly not the Muslim version of it.
1EqualityUSA
I want Muslims to know that we don’t all feel this way, Hussain-TheCanadian. This inauguration is going to be riotous. I have a beautiful family on my block. When I was putting out the recycling, I waved, and the mother smiled so beautifully. I want them to know we all do not feel this way. The damage done is irreparable. I’m so sad the Trump’s message carried him to our White House.

Yes…. a Trump voter in a nutshell: Don’t touch muh gunz, get them queers outta ‘murica, muh bible, ain’t no she-man gonna be up on muh peter in the shitter, get them muzzies outta here and put Jesus back in first grade!!!
Xzamilloh
@Realitycheck: Trump was never gonna reverse marriage equality… SCOTUS already decided that, and besides, he didn’t care. Not that he even like LGBT people, he just doesn’t care, and indifference is better than bigotry, as far as I’m concerned
takingliberties
I think Trump is wonderful and gay men should not be allowed to get married because they have too much sex and too many sexual partners. Gay men do not know how to commit and they are too self involved to have a loving family. We will see the number of child abuse cases skyrocket now, because gay men on crystal meth will adopt and bring their kids to sex parties. Only lesbians should be allowed to marry. They are like Ellen and Rosie and k.d. lang and that singer who wants you to come to her window and got cancer. Lesbians are very loving and they know how to cook, clean, and eat each other out.

The only thing I know for sure is that Donald is bound to disappoint everyone, both on the right and left. And so it starts…

@takingliberties: Oh my, you really are not being sarcastic. My lifetime partner of 54 years, married 12 years, know more about stability than you do and by the way, it is same-gender marriage because it is more about love and kindness, not sex as you seem to think. You are so misinformed and wrong about gay men, my husband was a chef and can out cook you any day.
GayEGO
Religious extremists need to be curtailed and kept in their boxes, they have no place in our modern society.
Kangol
We’ll see. Pence and the rest of the anti-gay ghouls aren’t going anywhere. If they put a hard right anti-gay nutcase like Ted Cruz or Roy Moore on the Supreme Court, don’t think that white evangelicals in Southern states won’t rush to overturn LGBTQ equality. Given the GOP’s control of the House and Senate, they could pass a law over Democrats’ resistance, and have the new Supreme Court uphold it. Do you think Trump would veto it? Or override their veto?
Kangol
Or try to get Democrats and a small coalition of Republicans to override their veto?
alterego1980
@Xzamilloh: Sadly, he doubled down on trying to overturn Roe v. Wade. And connecting the dots, I’m not sure there is a judge who will vote to overturn Roe v Wade but vote to keep Obergefell (Marriage Equality). Certainly not one on his list. So, he just keeps on pandering, is being very disingenuous and cannot be trusted. Many times, indifference & ambivalence is just as bad as bigotry. The only saving grace right now, is that 1 vote (replacing Scalia) won’t swing the SCOTUS. But a second will.
He BGB
Good for trump. It’s pence, Gingrich and the other extremist haters we have to watch out for. Someone who still wants the HIV,money to go instead towards conversion therapy/electro shock therapy to cure queers. Pence is 2nd in line to the presidency. You can see it in his eyes just waiting for his turn….
fur_hunter
I have a feeling that Trump has been pulling a typical politician’s trick of telling lies to the public, then when in office, doing what he actually wants. Gingrich is a typical @$$ hole. I’m from Georgia and he is the one who pushed the Defense of Marriage Act. That Dumb @$$ has been married 4 times already. If he can’t get it right, how DARE he tell me that I can’t get married.
Mo Bro
Yeah, funny how it’s a “flip-flop” when Trump does it, but when Hillary and Obama did it, it was an “evoluuuuuution.”
Paco
@Xzamilloh: It’s a shame that many of his top picks for his administration don’t share his indifference. Indifference also means you can sit back and watch which direction the breeze blows. It’s just a breeze, nothing to worry about. Right?
whirlaround
In the end, they don’t have to worry. He’s against marriage equality and will appoint judges against it. He will sign bills to act against it, and he will work with people who want it to “go away.”
novadude
I’d bet a fair percentage of the religious wingnuts who want to undo marriage equality are themselves guilty of divorce and/or adultery. The very idea that such hypocrites think they have the right to define what “real” marriage is laughable!
And please spare us the “because the Bible says so” nonsense. That’s your Bible, not mine. You can keep it!
If you get freedom of religion then I get freedom from religion. There is no difference.
OzJosh
Guess what? When you vote for a lying scuzball who doesn’t really believe in anything other than money, he’s not going to do what you want at least half of the time. This should be as much a lesson for the deluded fools who voted him as for the rest of the US. Trump will do whatever is convenient at the time, never mind what he’s said before.
dwes09
@Mo Bro: “Yeah, funny how it’s a “flip-flop” when Trump does it, but when Hillary and Obama did it, it was an “evoluuuuuution.””
Hillary’s position has changed over the years, much as (and along the same lines as) that of the sane majority has. Trump’s positiona changed daily or hourly depending on which group he was pandering to. And when confronted with that he simply denied having said the things he said (and that were well documented). Clearly you lack the ability to see the difference there. And it is that level of fuzzy thinking and critical evaluation weakness that got Trump the presumed Electoral College (but not popular vote) victory.
Reality and logic suggest there is no reason to think Trump is telling the truth here. Given his rather stupid reference to “settled law” in the case of marriage, but continued insistence that reproductive rights are not unassailable despite being around much longer; the realistic conclusion is that he is continuing to pander and dissemble.
When you get the mandatory pink triangles in the mail that Pence has convinced Trump are a “nice” way to make it easier for good christian folks to be sure their religious freedom is not impinged by serving gay people in business, perhaps that little light bulb might go off in your brain. But perhaps not (just a hypothetical there, but not totally unrealistic given Pence’s history).

@takingliberties: Lol! You’re pretty funny
captainburrito
@Kangol: Congress passing a law to undo marriage equality is possible of course but it would be hard as not all Republicans are on board. They know where the winds are blowing on this issue. For it to succeed they would need to strip the court of jurisdiction but to pass the court it would need a few more justices replaced first eg. Kennedy, Ginsbury and Breyer. They could hang on for 4 years.
There has been anti gay marriage bills introduced but they’ve been killed even by Republican committees in the House and Senate. Ted Cruz alone has introduced several.
So it seems at present they can’t even pass the first hurdle let alone play the long game to get the courts to agree.
I’d totally support them trying to do this as gay marriage support increases by the day and this just hurts them. We should encourage these evanglicals to put pressure on Trump to mess with them.
Cos if abortion is not settled law, then neither is gay marriage if we are going to be consistent with Trumps logic.

@takingliberties: I’m not sure if your male or female but I get a kick out of your reasoning. Like straight men don’t do crystal meth on the farm. Seems you know all about gay men too. And if your a straight man I bet you got a fuck load of lesbian porno, don’t you.

In one statement he deflected criticism from the LGBT community while knowing that, yes, it will be all the FEDERAL JUDGES HE APPOINTS that will overturn Marriage Equality.
