The Queen of Soul passed away yesterday from pancreatic cancer at the age of 76. And while her fans absorb the shock and mourn her passing, memers have been busy making sure she gets the R-E-S-P-E-C-T she deserves by being immortalized forever in internet memes.

Aretha Franklin has already immortalized herself through her music. To say these memes “immortalize” her is extremely presumptuous on your part, and Queerty comes across as very self-important in an annoyingly millennial way. There’s nothing particularly “amazing” about these mawkish memes, either, definitely nothing anywhere near as amazing as Aretha herself.

REALLY?! Give it up people! This is the new thing, get offended/triggered by every little thing said or published. Do you honestly believe ANY of these things individually or the article as a whole were meant to detract from her illustrious career? C’MON! The fact that people chose to take some of their personal time to “immortalize” her in these memes was a form of respect for her accomplishments. You have to be digging pretty deep to be so righteously indignant due to this post. PLEASE, let us all get off of our high horse and just get back to appreciating something at face value rather than trying to assign some malicious intent to every single thing!
