Sure, this could have gone into the QueerFeed column, be we wanted to make sure it caught your attention. It seems that an Arizona based organization, inappropriately named Alliance Defense Fund, has filed a law suit here in New York that calls for state organizations to ignore gay marriages confirmed elsewhere.
365 Gay Reports:
A conservative legal group has filed a lawsuit to block the state public employee retirement system from recognizing Massachusetts and Canadian marriages entered into by gay and lesbian current and retired New York State workers.
This begs the question: why does a conservative group based in Arizona care what happens to gay retirees in New York? This would be like us poking our nose into some sports blog and telling them they needed to be more gay. Are people really that bored with their own lives that they have to go crossing state line to ruin other people’s? Sheesh.

Nothing will come of this. Unless I am missing something, this suit will be dismissed for lack of standing. Not to mention the fact that they were not directly injured, so it could be dismissed for lack of case or controversy.
While this knowledge may help someone breath easier, it is still disturbing that some Arizona haters can try to deflate any progress in NY state…we have the NY Court of Appeals to do that!

They presumably have standing by representing disgruntled New York retirees. The EFF and ACLU file many suits outside of their actual home bases, because they are asked to. I don’t see anything particularly remarkable about the Arizona angle.

But the ACLU actually reps someone injured (i.e. SCRAP), but this appears more to be a Sierra Club hypothetical, because no one in Arizona is injured by a New York state act.

unfortunately this group is rabid in its attacks on arizona gays.. funding prop 107 in arizona and placing ads all over the state saying that it helps protect arizona families, and children… when in reality they want to clone everyone to be like all the polygamist towns in AZ and UT… i like to think that people in new york are smart enough to see through the frontiersman-hick attitude and slap em down.
