53-year-old Utah resident Sam Russell swears his new dating site, wherewhitepeoplemeet.com, isn’t racist.
“It’s about equal opportunity,” he told the Washington Post. “The last thing in the world I am is racist. I dated a black woman once.”

Despite the fact that the name of the website makes a point of mentioning race, the former used-car salesman insists his site is “not racially motivated in any way.” To prove it, all one needs to do is visit the About Us page.

“Here at www.wherewhitepeoplemeet.com we believe that all people, regardless of race, creed, color or religion deserve to be happy and that no one should go through life alone,” the page reads.
Noticeably absent from the statement are the words “sexual orientation.” That’s because wherewhitepeoplemeet.com, in addition to catering to an all-white crowd, also only caters to heterosexuals. The site’s default settings forbid users from searching for members of the same sex.
“It’s our right to have this business,” Russell said, though it was unclear whether the “we” he was referring to was himself or white heterosexual people, in general. “If we want equal rights in this country, it has to be equal rights for everybody.”
“No one who knows me,” he added, “would ever call me a racist.”

These people act like most other existing dating apps and websites aren’t already overwhelmingly rife with white people, many of whom express in no uncertain terms their “preferences” for other white people only. News flash: if the sight of one black or brown face per twenty squares annoys you so much that you feel the need to establish an exclusive white space, then you are in fact a r@cist. Just man up and own it. I see this as no different from the people who cry about the absence of “White Entertainment Television” in view of networks like BET, as if one can’t turn to virtually any other TV channel and see a white majority.

Black people, Jewish people, we LGBTs, even arguably in some communities Christians, do not have the same opportunities (dating or otherwise) afforded to us which necessitates category-specific dating websites. There is not a place in this country where white people are disenfranchised because of their race, least of all in Utah where this website is based.

I disagree with race only dating sites but there are black only sites as well that are ignored. There are religious sites for only religious people. So queerty this is an epic failure of hypocrisy. White people aren’t really excluded in most areas and even on sites that cater to minorities you will find white people in them who I’m sure get attention. We live in a capitalist system, and if you can find a niche market and make money off of the, I say go do it.

In any context. Seriously. You can’t discuss something somebody said in Queerty’s own article about that very subject while actually using the word that the person used, that’s quoted in the article, and that applies specifically to the subject the article is talking about. If you even reference the actual quote used in the article, you get the “this comment is being moderated” auto-response from Queerty and your post is never published. This is a policy out of Alice in Wonderland.
Queerty does recognize that this is itself a really offensive policy, doesn’t it? A minority can’t even use the specific word that’s the specific reference to the denigration of that minority, even when Queerty presents a quote from someone and an article specifically about whether or not that person fits the definition of that word.
Maybe the question shouldn’t be whether Utah resident Sam Russell fits the definition of that word, but whether Queerty’s commenting policies make Queerty fit the definition of that word, as Queerty bans minorities from actually using the specific word meant to describe the particular type of denigration to which they’re subjected.

It’s a known fact that we tend to prefer our own race… nothing bad about that at all. And as I have been referred to as an Uncle Tom and a sellout on this website, it’s refreshing to see that now I’m one of “those blacks” whining about white people having their own site. Have what you want… but it’s stupid because even in the areas that joeyty mentioned (with the exception of Hawaii as it is a state primarily made up of non-whites) and the states, the majority race is white. The majority race EVERYWHERE is white. So let’s not pretend that white people are scarce in those areas or anywhere else, and just look at it for what it is.

Sites like this don’t bother me. In fact I think they need to have a gay version of this site, so I don’t have to waste my time responding to profiles from guys who wouldn’t otherwise give me the time of day. I feel the same way about men of color that choose to only date and associate with white guys. If you don’t want to date other men of color that’s fine. Go be Brandon’s burden. Race is a social construct created by white supremacist. You aren’t born attracted to a specific race, any “proof” to the contrary is b.s. Attraction outside of orientation is largely influenced by popular culture and media. European beauty is the standard by which everyone else is held which is why sites like this are pointless.
