Scientific advancement has saved countless lives, increased the quality of life for millions and helped us understand the world around us with ever-deepening clarity.
And now a new study published in Social Science Quarterly does… absolutely none of those things.
But hey, it’s fuel for fantasy and we could all use a little bit of that now and then.

How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
According to researchers at Iowa State University, attractive people are more likely to hold accepting views of gay sex as opposed to less conventionally attractive folks.
Looking at responses from the 2016 General Social Survey and the 1972 National Election Study, researchers compared how respondents reacted to “moral issues” like marriage equality, gay sex and abortion.
These particular studies involved evaluations of the participants’ physical appearances, and people who possessed more conventionally attractive attributes were more likely to approve of same-sex lovin’.
Other topics like marijuana legalization saw no difference based on physicality.

“These results support the hypothesis that greater opportunity to indulge in a behavior — as good looks typically provide for sexual activities — reduces the sense of moral stigma surrounding that activity,” Robert Urbatsch of Iowa State University speculated.
If the theory sounds a bit thin, that’s because it is. Other factors like upbringing and exposure to non-straight peers would likely influence a person’s belief structure more than how readily available sex may be.
But it’s also not the craziest idea we’ve ever heard.

More dangerous trast journalism by queerty.

And trash like you felt the need to comment.
QueerTruth
He’s right. It is a dangerous article because it gives no information on the study, the stats, how it was conducted, etc. Without that analysis, the author of the article is not conducting journalism. It’s disappointing.

That must be why I’m gay. The things ya learn. 😉

Well duh. They’re the ones who get hit on and asked more often to consider it and have it. This sort of equates to… “Gosh Martha, the good looking girls get asked to the prom more often than I do.”

Cute, gorgeous people are even flattered when receiving compliments from people of the same sex. Makes sense to me.
batesmotel
I don’t know about that. I’m sure it’s split down the middle.

How the hell did they distinguish between “pretty” people and “average” people. Some people think that Lady Gaga and Troye Sivan are pretty, while I find them pretty unattractive.
JACVing
Troye Sivan IS pretty. He’s just skinny, and that’s just a matter of what you’re into. Lady Gaga is more like millionare-famous-pretty, but kinda average without all that.
iamru2
Lol exactly and today everyone is at least “ attractive”.
Attlebert
Hmm- pretty thin study. In years past I have seen studies that purport that more classically attractive people are, or have the opportunity to, become better educated as in receiving college education. Then one could surmise that better educated people become more learned about diversities in life; including recognizing many more options or opportunities, providing the ability to explore their sexualities. So, with this, it might be a logical conclusion that more attractive people can or may have more same sex exploration than their less attractive peers. A little convoluted evolution there! Ha!
Thomas
The associations between attractiveness and approval remained after adjusting for years of education.
And, the author also adjusted for age, sex, race, ethnicity, vocabulary, income, religious attendance, religiosity, and left-right (political) position. Some of these variables also predicted approval, but importantly, attractiveness still predicted approval after accounting for all these variables.
I might recommend you actually read the study before posting unwarranted criticisms (“thin study”? what does that even mean?) on the internet.
Donston
This is hardly a legit “study”. But it does seem as if conventionally attractive people are more likely to “experiment” because they tend to be a tad more likely to narcissistic and also more likely to have all types of people hit on them all the time. But yes, upbringing and your exposure to non hetero people probably has more to do with things. The same thing goes for homosexual/homo-leaning/homoromantic/gay men being more likely to hook up with chicks because of their conventionally attractive looks and being constantly exposed to heteronormalcy.
This isn’t a study so much as common sense.
Thomas
Please define for the rest of us exactly what is a “legit study”.

@ Thomas one that he agrees with lol

Yeah I’m down with gay sex but I guess the main reason for that is simply because I’m gay.
Herman75
Did Qwerty or anyone else actually read the full study from Iowa State? It’s only $8. I might give it a whirl. What the heck!

This is ridiculous, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
