Jacqueline Alexander certainly won’t be winning any Mother of the Year awards anytime soon.
The 46-year-old Tennessee woman found herself being carted away from her apartment in handcuffs earlier this week after she punched her son in the face for being “too feminine and too gay.”
The boy, whose name and age have not been released, was in bed at the time of the attack. When police arrived at the scene late Tuesday night, they say his face was covered in bruises.
“It’s shocking every time it happens, but it’s not new to us at the center,” said Will Batts, who runs the Memphis Gay and Lesbian Center. “We hear a lot of stories about people who are assaulted by family members. Young people who are kicked out of their houses when they come out to a parent.”
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Neighbors of the family were shocked when they learned of the attack.
“That’s not right,” neighbor Tamika Heard lamented. “I mean that’s her flesh and blood, her son. No, that’s not right.”
“You don’t know who you are living around,” another neighbor said. “It’s just terrible.”
Alexander was booked on charges of domestic assault. Her bond was set at $1,000.

Waiting for a quote from her or someone in her family that goes, “We are all sinners and fall short of the glory of God.” “Jesus died for me and I am washed in his blood”. “I’m not gay no mo!!”
PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID
She can’t afford to alienate a fem gay son…not with the state of her skin care regimen!
DarSco
It is VERY HARD being Black Man who is gay. This witch needs to have her child taken away from her! I hope this kid realizes that all he has to do is stick it out until he graduates high school and goes to college. He will be prepared for life PLUS enjoy freedom from his psychopath of a mammy.
Gruffling
It doesn’t even state if the son is actually gay. Lots of campy straight guys in the world, doesn’t seem it’d be much of a stretch for her to assume gay because he’s not the most masculine.
Kamuriie
Lettie Mae, is that you?!
money718
Where is the father?
DarSco
@money718: the father woke up sober, saw what he screwed the drunken night before and RAN like a runaway slave when he saw the ugly kont he just screwed. lol.
wade.l
The simple fact here, like so many parents, is that she does not love her son son enough.
Harley
@DarSco: I read this story on another web site and the boys was 8. I wouldn’t want him to live with that witch till he graduates college. I doubt he would survive that long. And, @money718: Most likely either “unknown” or in jail from the looks of her.
jwtraveler
@Gruffling: It doesn’t matter. There are no excuses or good reasons for attacking an 8-year-old child.
Blackceo
@DarSco:
Very true. That was my father’s concern when I came out; not that I was gay, but the worry that my life would be even harder being a gay man of color.
I just don’t understand how a parent doesn’t unconditionally love their child. I am so thankful mine didn’t give a shit about my sexuality. This mother needs the shit slapped out of her.
Sluggo2007
Her bond was set at $1,000? She can probably cover that with her Benefit Card.
Tackle
@Blackceo: Well the good thing for our LGBTQ youth is, most parents do not behave this way towards them. While they may not be bending over backwards doing cartwheels, most do not lash out violently or throw their LGBTQ child out of the house.
jwtraveler
@Blackceo: All but the most privileged of white boys come into this world with something that will cause them to face difficulties and obstacles in the world. But when the world is beating you down, it’s important to have a loving family to pick you up, give you a hug and tell you you’re all right. Sadly this is not true for everyone and even less so if you’re gay. I have heard some black homophobes claim that anti-gay discrimination is different from and not nearly as bad as racial discrimination. Surely there are differences between homophobia and racism, and I don’t play the “Who’s more oppressed?” game. But when I hear those comments my response is: “No black kid ever got beaten up by his family and/or kicked out of his home because he was black.” The world is a much scarier and more dangerous place when your family is not a refuge from it.

Poor kid. I wonder what will happen to him when she gets out. Surely she’s unfit to be his parent. I hope he has some other (NORMAL) family member to look after him.
Giancarlo85
@jwtraveler: I often seriously question that logic that discrimination against LGBT people wasn’t as bad as discrimination against African Americans in the 1950s/1960s (and prior of course). Gay people were discriminated alike during the same time African Americans were discriminated. I also like to point out a key figure in MLK’s own campaign and one of his friends was gay.
Bayard Rustin is a figure that is often overlooked… but he was crucial in the marches on Washington. And he was an out gay man. In fact in 1986, a year before he passed, he quite clearly stated that gay people were the new civil rights movement. The man was years ahead of his time.
Black Pegasus
Welp, she certainly isn’t Cookie from the show Empire. Cookie would go down like a soldier for her gay son Jamal.

@PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID:
OMG ROFL, you so wrong for that!
jwtraveler
@Giancarlo85: Yes, Bayard Rustin is an oft-overlooked hero. Somewhat like Alan Turing, he served his purpose and then was discarded, though fortunately his end was not as tragic.
