Logo‘s “Finding Prince Charming” hasn’t even premiered yet and already it’s stirring up a lot of controversy. The latest development suggests that there may be some bachelors on the show struggling with internalized homophobia.
In the first episode, set to air tonight, the most effeminate of the contestants, 26-year-old beauty expert Robby, is mocked and ridiculed for his flamboyance, The Wrap reports.

The hostility appears as soon as the men enter the house they all share while bidding for the affections of bachelor Robert Sepulvada, Jr.:
“Let’s get this party started, bitches!” Robby shouts at his competitors. The camera pans to 31-year-old Sam, who looks disgusted at the shrieks and one-liners Robby brings to the group — to say nothing of the physical affection. Other contestants referred to his ‘energy’ and ‘larger-than-life’ personality.
‘I’ve never met anyone like Robby before, except for maybe in the theater,’ Sam says in a confessional segment. He seems mortified by Robby’s behavior, and incredulous that no one else openly shares his discomfort.
Sam then asks him if he always acts that way, before telling him to tone it down by saying, “Fix your dress!”

“I would never do anything that perpetuated stereotypes that I thought were destructive,” show creator Brian Graden told The Wrap. “What happened was the honest reaction and we thought it was important to explore.”

How can any self respecting person go on a show like this? And that goes for the straight versions too.
PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID
So overbearing loud attention-seeking obnoxiousness gets a pass because its some protected species known as a “flamboyant “? Fuck outta here. And as for your “-shaming” queer theory/gender studies woo..shove it up your safe space

@PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID: Pot meet kettle.
Bauhaus
Dick fest meet kiki.
Masc Pride
I’m sure this is all part of one of those staged “teachable moments” that LGBT shows like to shamelessly hammer into the audience at some point. Yet I’m also sure “Prince Charming” won’t be picking a flamer either.
SportGuy
So fat this show is nothing but a ex porn star, raci$t,and now homophobes. So pathetic!
PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID
@IDoNotHaveToAgreeWithYou: Oooh! Ethered! >_< *copy-paste for future use*

If I want to see a bitch fest, never fear Queerty is here. Looking forward to the show tonight. I’m sure it’ll be entertaining.
Bitch on.

@Bauhaus: LMAO! Meet Prince Rentboy: Gurrrls just wanna have fun!
@Josh447: At first I read your final comment as “Butch on.” LOL

I want to be supportive of my LGBT family of entertainment but this one, I just can’t do. BRING ON THE MEN IN DRESSES!!!
ingyaom
Unlike hetero versions of this show where the participants have only one chance at love (with the preselected bachelor), any man on “Prince Charming” could end up with any other, so I’d say the stakes are considerably lower.
sfhally
Just ick. Or as someone once said “I detest cheap sentiment!”

I don’t buy into the self hating internalized homophobia bull crap. And I’m getting kind of tired hearing it spouted by people setting themselves up to be the arbiter of what’s accepted and what’s homophobic. Basically they’re saying that extreme feminism is the predominant trait among gay men (which it isn’t) so to be put off by that behavior is absolutely an indicator of internalized conflict (which it isn’t). The main thing I notice is that the ultra PC continuously offended victim class among us likes to throw these accusations at any guy that doesn’t want to sleep with them.
Oli1023
@PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID: Aww look! A self-hating wretch who suffers foe masculinity issues, how cute!
At least other people were secure enough to engage in sexual activities like anal intercourse without doubting “Does this make me look too gay?” Unlike Someone.
Violent Rainbow
Finding someone annoying for shrieking like a banshee is homophobia now?
Violent Rainbow
Why are so many gay guys effeminate like that? I’m not like that at all, most gay people I know aren’t.
dunwoodyjoey
I just want to Lysol my keyboard and screen. What a catch.
Hillers
This model of reality romance show reaaaaally never quite makes the most sense with people who are same-sex attracted since if you aren’t in good graces with the eponymous bachelor, there’s a whole house full of other dudes from which to partake.
Gates
I don’t like gay men who act like women or lesbians who act like men. Just perpetuating a stereotype. I’m sorry but it is embarrassing to me.
andy_d
@Jack Meoff: It’s called “Publicity Whoring.” See entries under Kardashian and Caitlin Jenner.
andy_d
@Violent Rainbow: Why? Because there is a wide spectrum of personality/traits in the LGBT community as there are in any other community.
andy_d
@Gates: You are entitled to not like a person. You are NOT entitled to SHAME effeminate gay men or masculine lesbians. By stating, in a public forum. That they are “embarrassing” to you is doing just that. As I said to Violent Rainbow, there is a wide spectrum of personality/traits in the LGBT community as there are in any other community.

i’d rather watch paint dry. looking for true love? just like the hetero versions this is all one big fucking joke.
robho3
@PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID: someone didn’t take their happy pill today. Such internalized hate can’t be good for you…

This show looks like a train wreck and we all know people can’t stop looking at one. I think LOGO must be payi g queerty for all the free PR.
PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID
@Oli1023: Trust me. I’d hate myself a lot more if I was “shamed” into doing something that didn’t turn me on just to get in the good graces of some fuckwit commenter with comprehension challenges.
@robho3: Internalized hatred? Kindly elucidate.
DCguy
@highestbidder:
No. Actually what they are saying is don’t bully somebody just because they are femmy. Sorry you missed that glaring point.
Kevan1
Yes sadly this show has been poorly produced. I hope it gets better with time. I wish there were a more diverse group of guys. The show could be better in many ways. I was disappointed in the diversity of men. There are men who are gay who are not effeminate and many that are like the average straight guy and some who are very masculine. I have no problem with gay guys who may be more fem in that is who they are. Their authentic self. A person like Sam, who has such a hard time with the more feminine men, has issues he needs to explore and get over. He should have never been on the show. No one is asking him to sleep with the contestant he attacked verbally. I must say that Robert Sepulvada, Jr. is not all that butch himself just a supper hot bod.
I also think it is sad that Robert seems to be shallow in the men he wants to date. He is only interested in the men with hard bodies, missing out on the possibility that a man with a more average body might be the best mate for him. The show sadly demonstrates, as gay men, that we are shallow only hard body loving whores. Gay men with any substance know that in the end that there is more to a person than a six or 8 pack, in Roberts’s case. Yes a hot bod is nice, but is fleeting. “We all lose are charms in the end.” A good man has more substance than that alone. Please do not get me wrong a hot body is nice, but it should be lower on the list than many other attributes.

Well it looks like the road to heaven
But it feels like the road to hell
When I knew which side my bread was buttered
I took the knife as well
Posing for another picture
Everybody’s got to sell
But when you shake your ass
They notice fast
And some mistakes were built to last.
Giuseppe
@Jack Meoff: 100% correct!

These messes sign up for this junk to be on television and hopefully be famous or get their own reality TV show or both. If you were serious about meeting “Prince Charming” you wouldn’t doing it this way. A bunch of lisping queens perpetuating EVERY stereotype out there about gay men. I don’t blame the producers, I blame the audience that the producers have aimed this at, no audience…no show. God American is vapid and desperate, this just set gay rights back 20yrs.
Giuseppe
@Kevan1: This junk is PRODUCED for exactly all the comments you read here. There was never an intention to be diverse or intellectual or witty or interesting…that doesn’t make good TV and doesn’t generate rating, which generate $$$$$$$$$$$$$. There really is the belief that bad reviews are better than no reviews, and as long as people are talking about it, and that will get other people to want to see what all the fuss is about, the producers have done their job. Look at the phoniness of the Kartrashians…BIG money and FAKE. So is this, trust me, the producers already have a “Prince Charming” picked out and even if it lasts a month after the show ends, that’s good enough. Oh, did I mention I work in TV…..spoiler alert.
Giuseppe
@paul dorian lord fredine: Yep.
Giuseppe
@Gates: Agree. I think it’s deliberate, people want attention and doing both of those things will get it for them. Sliding scale but I have to agree, I don’t think most of it’s organic, some, but not most.
Kenover
What happened to Logo? They used to have a few good shows and aspirations to be the “serious” gay channel. It’s sad.
