It must be tough to be as good looking as Matt Bomer, having to play such studs as Ken in Magic Mike, Neal Caffrey on White Collar, and now, Montgomery Clift in Monty Clift.
The handsome, talented, and gay actor, who last year appeared in HBO’s critically acclaimed adaptation of The Normal Heart, may have to tap into his personal experiences to play the handsome, talented, and gay Clift in the cable network’s upcoming bio flick.
With a script by Christopher Lovick and Love Is Strange writers Ira Sachs and Mauricio Zacharias, the story is said to focus on Clift’s relationship with his A Place in the Sun co-star Elizabeth Taylor, who became a lifelong friend (and, for a time, possibly more).
There’s no word yet on when the film will air or who’s playing Taylor (we’re praying it’s not Lindsay Lohan), so to tide you over, here are some pics of Clift for your salivating pleasure.
How about we take this to the next level?

From a looks department, perfect casting choice. Wow, both gorgeous men. Too bad Mont Clift’s life and career were affected by tragedy.
Pistolo
They were trying to promote it as if it were a love story in the beginning of development, which really pisses me off. He came out to Elizabeth was she was 19 and she tried to set him up with men from then on, she even told the Advocate (and MANY other sources) that they weren’t romantically involved. To promote it as a romance between him and Elizabeth Taylor, which they had initially, is not only factually incorrect, it’s offensive.
There’s a much better story between the two of just being friends, not the conjecture of Debbie Reynolds. Also, it goes to show you that Elizabeth Taylor, years before the Stonewall Riots, was a gay advocate and a friend to gays. A true gay icon.

Wiki says he had the most beautiful face in Hollywood.
True enough.

Ah, Monty. Place in the Sun. Ah, Monty in just about anything (even after his face-scarring accident). Still makes me weak in the knees. Can’t wait to see this. (And if you haven’t seen A Place in the Sun, rent it, buy it, steal it. Shelley Winters makes it worth the effort, too. And if you’re really enterprising, read the book it’s based on, An American Tragedy by Theodore Dreiser—one of the great books of American literature.)

Wow! Amazing casting call. I have always loved that pic of Monty lounging in shorts that show some supple butt cheek.
PARKAVMAN
I saw the resemblance to the pre accident Clift from the first time I saw White Collar.
lauraspencer
Clift is much dreamier than Bomer.
IanHunter
I think that this is the best actor to play Monty. I just hope that the script will be great and that it is well done. I am looking forward to seeing this movie.
charlie_jackpot
That white t-shirt pic, he looks very handsome
PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID
Matt Bomer’s beauty is mathematical.
Montgomery Clift’s beauty goes so much deeper and darker.

Based on looks alone, former Corbin Fisher star Trey (who also does legit modeling) is a dead-ringer for Monty Cliff.
Who will play the men with whom he was allegedly involved, like Jerome Robbins & James Dean?
demented
I hope they don’t have too many experiences in common, since Clift was very unhappy and suffered a horrible near-fatal accident that disfigured him!
NoCagada
@demented: AND he had a little weenie!
Billy Budd
Stanley Kubrick’s pictures of a young Monty Clift are AWESOME. Clift was very hot, totally gay and was balanced until he had his accident, then he became an addict and unbalanced. His life was destroyed…. It was very tragic. His performances on screen after the accident are horrible. For example, watch his movie about Freud: Awful.

Matt Bomer is beautiful, and yet even he doesn’t match up to Montgomery Clift’s beauty.
Cagnazzo82
Might I add I hope no actor today ever suffers the fate Montgomery Clift suffered.
I can’t even imagine something like that happening to a big named star today. Devastating.
(Actually on second thought before i post I just remembered about Paul Walker, so yeah…)
stanhope
@jockjack5: Indeed he did…that said Truman Capote nicknamed him Princess Tiny Meat….his lack of substance in that particular area was the talk of the town…..let’s not forget that delightful hairy ass.
stanhope
@Cagnazzo82: very true…that one scene he had with Elizabeth Taylor in “A Place in the Sun” on the terrace where the lighting was perfection showed him at his very best
Caleb Collins
@lauraspencer: No, Matt is far more handsome….I guess had I lived in Clift’s era I’d think differently.

Both are/were beautiful men. But I don’t think they look anything alike. Different lips, nose forehead and overall face shape and structure. But you don’t necessarily have to look identical to the person you are playing. But what you must do in order to turn in a great performance, and do a historical figure justice, is capture their “essence.” Angela Basset proved this in her role as Tina Turner. She didn’t/doesn’t look like Tine, but captured her essence, and then some. I have on the fence about Matt’s acting talent…

It will be interesting to see how hollywood will “De-Gay” this film. They will mention it, but it will, I’m sure ONLY focus on his friendship with Taylor and they’ll probably add in a few B.S. scenes where they pretend that he was in love with her.
For an example of how bad hollywood still is, last night’s “Modern Family”, I was shocked because they had Cam and Mitchel actually seem to be attracted to each other, and as they moved towards each other Mitchel suddenly sneezes and they step back.
So even AFTER all of the flack they’ve gotten, they are still pulling that crap.
tricky ricky
matt is better looking than monty ever was.
jantheman4903
clift had a hairy butt? did he do a nude scene, never heard of. bomer is a good actor but so far..not great IMO, tho i like him very much.
martinbakman
Matt Bomer certainly has the acting chops for it. Call it method acting if you like Queerty. Call whatever the heck you want. I’m looking forward to this.
AdrianS
Clift is better lookin’
Matt1961
HAHA The first movie I saw Montgomery Clift in was Red River with John Wayne. I immediately fell in love with him. He was most certainly the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen. I’d fantasize about him all the time. My wife (no longer) never questioned why I watched that move so often, as she know’s I’m also a rabid John Wayne fan. I had no clue as to his sexuality until I read a very in depth story about him a couple of years ago.
Damn that man was sexy.
As for Matt Bomer? He’s just as hot… I gotta call my boyfriend right now… haha
LadyL
I may be in the minority here but I’m sort of dreading this biopic. Monty was so beautiful and had so much promise, and his slide was so awful and his destruction so complete I’m not sure I want to see it reproduced with Matt’s face stamped on it.
Cam
@LadyL:
They’re going to pretend that he was always in love with Liz Taylor and carried a tourch for her most likely. Hollywood will do anything to de-gay a movie.
stranded
i always thought megan fox looked like taylor but i don’t know if she has the acting chops for a drama, then again who knows, she’s been typecast for a while. i can’t really think of any modern actress that has has some of what made Taylor special. Jessica Raine? Emma Stone?
