Know what’s gay? Figure skating. Even gayer than competitive ass fucking. Which is why it’s totally fine that Johnny Weir is never called an athlete, just “controversial,” “flamboyant,” and “fun!”
that's gay
Because Johnny Weir’s Competitors Are So Masculine, Right?

I hate that in our society having a penis means that you are immediately disallowed from doing an entire matrix of things. I don’t care if I carry a purse or make feathered head-dresses for Gaga for a living, I have a dick, and I’m a man. I might even be a top. 😀 The same goes for Johnny Weir. Why is what Johnny Weir does “funny”. Yeah figure skating is hilarious,.. The blatant and blunt homophobia in our media sickens me.

Did you guys change the name of this place to QWEIRTY????
Cam
In truth, while I have my issues with Johnny Weir’s closeted status, I think calling him out for being feminine is beyond ridiculous when they hold up Evan Lysecek as a masculine Alternative. They are both talanted, they are both great skaters and they both pretty much come off fairly …non-butch. I mean Evan was wearing a sparkly spandex outfit with glittering snakes crawling all over it. I really don’t know to many “Butch” guys who are going to come home after a day at the docks and slip into their spangly sequineed snake covered spandex while they watch football. the Woman that the skating associating said he was dating according to Evan was just a good friend etc… I mean come on here! The skating associating needs to get over their own brand of wink wink nudge nudge homophobia.

@Cam: Cam, its not “wink, wink nudge nudge”…..its blatent blatent!! Even thought Johnny qWeir is “not Gay” when he was number one ranked in the US, the Figure ASSociation refused to post his photo or acknowledge him on their website! They wanted to present a more “masculine image” according to the Director…..
B Damion
Wow..Johnny again really?..Why is this non stop. jesus why don’t we all just make a line n take turns sucking Johnnys cock. That would solve all this sexaul confusion..etc..gzzzz
So “F’ing what he’s feminine..we knew that, this isn’t news. Just leave the kid alone n let him live his life how he wants to live it.
I Mean what the hell does it matter it’s a sport. All that should matter is can the boy skate? And he clearly can. I’m sick of the oly-games n can’t wait till it’s over.

I didn’t mean wink wink as in it isn’t blatant, I meant it in that in my opinion most of them are aware that most of the male skaters, or at least a very large percentage are gay, as are probably a bunch of the board members of the association. They really must be a bunch of dickheads.

Outside of his talent, the greatest strength of Johnny Weir is his balls.
The audacity of people to not know how GAY figure skating is. Can they be that stupid? Yes, there’s been a lot of press about Johnny Weir lately – most of it either juvenile or vile, all of it homophobic. They talk about Weir likes its a new sport.
Disparaging homosexuals (and those remotely suspect) is nothing new, yet for some reason expressing this openly by on-air commentators is on the rise. Sadly, this seems to be Johnny’s major contribution to the 2010 Winter Olympics – luring people’s -phobias and -isms out onto the chilly Vancouver ice for all to see.
And the charge that he sets a “bad example” really burns my heart. Really? To who, young boys in Jamaica? Uganda? No, we don’t have to go to those exported boils of homophobia when we’ve got the orginal one still festering here at home. Yeah, home, in a country where its kids are mostly fat and gadget addicted, young people who work their way to the heights of any sport are revered. Home, where athletes are instantly role models, unless you’re too gay. Oh, you can be a little gay, just not pink tassel gay.
This situation makes it clear that its still dangerous to be a sissy boy here in America. Even ones who do a flawless triple lutz — with the world scrutinizing and announcers fumbling over euphemisms for ‘He’s such a FAGGOT!’ — get no respect, or the medal they clearly deserve, regardless of wonderful their performance was.
I’m thrilled Queerty has taken our young CHAMPION under its wing. The world would be such a better place with more people like Johnny Weir in it.
He’s the break-out star of the 2010 Vancouver games. Fuck what the judges said.

I’m all for celebs coming out officially, but anyone who doesn’t realize Johnny is gay is beyond help. In his case actions really do speak louder than words. And it completely boggles my mind that skating is so homophobic, who the hell are they trying to kid? Do they really think if there are more Evans and less Johnnys that all these butch straight men are going to switch from hockey and speed skating to figure skating? Seriously?
Cam
Alexa, While I dissagree with your first point. (I don’t think that just because a person acts feminine they should be creditied with being “Almost Out”)
Your second point is completely on target. Is there ANYTHING that would make hoards of straight men tune into figure skating? Unless the women started skating topless I seriously doubt it, and that still wouldn’t do anything to increase viewership of the men. So the Skating association needs to deal with their OWN homophobia.
mk
It’s a smart marketing scheme he has going. Between the showy outfits and antics and the buzz and controversies they touch off he’s becoming a well known character.
As this article points out figure skaters are already looked at as effeminate, but by outdoing all the rest of them in fabulous displays and putting real effort into it Weir has been pulling off the trick Liberace did all his career and Elton John used in his early years to get publicity for themselves. There are lots of skaters in the 2010 Olympics who most people would figure are gay although the skaters haven’t been willing to come out and say so, but Johnny Weir is the only one most people could name off the top of their heads and he didn’t even win a medal.

@mk:
“Elton John used in his early years to get publicity for themselves”……..Does this mean that Johnny qWeir is gonna marry an ugly French woman also???? : p

@B Damion: You mean take turns fucking his ass right? I bet he is a little wildcat in the sack!

Watched part of Johnny’s new reality series the other night. Anyone who thinks he needs to “officially” come out should watch it. LOL Along with skating in just his underpants (cute!) and fussing over his costumes, he also spends quite a bit of time on camera practicing “butt swivels,” (which the old lady Russian choreographer makes him throw out of the routine, Boooo!) Looks like he has to spend time in Moscow which means he needs to keep a visa up. Might have something to do with his not officially coming out. But when he does, it will be soooooo redundant. LOL

Yes, Galina frowns on the butt swivels. *sigh* But they make me smile and rewind. lol And yes, anyone who watches the show should understand why our Prince on Ice is exempt from the formal coming out ritual.
I hate hate HATE reality shows because they’re addictive and a huge time waster. But ‘Be Good, Johnny Weir’ is just too entertaining to not become my favorite guilty pleasure.
Naturally, my DVR is set to record all episodes. Thanx BRAVO!!

@Taylor Siluwé: Agreed reality shows are the guiltiest of pleasures…I too love little Johnny qWeir, I just want to hear as you put it our Prince (or is it Princess? : p) utter the words….I am Gay!……and truly the guiltiest of the guiltest pleaseures is Miss RuPauls Drag Race……

I finally, finally broke down and watched Drag Race (4 episodes back to back) – and *sigh*, as expected, a glittery new guilty pleasure was born.
Too much TV, too little time for me …..
terrwill
@Taylor Siluwé: LOL………I think the message we need to accept the old “Surrender Dorothy” : p
romeo
I just do drive-bys on those shows. I’m too restless to sit and watch all this stuff endlessly. I have been watching drag race fairly regularly and will try to catch Johnny now, too. My roommate likes all the housewives shows, but I can’t stand that. Watching that is like being married to those bitches. I just wind up feeling sorry for the husbands. LOL
Dasher
Can anyone tell me when Johnny Weir’s TV program is on?
romeo
@Dasher: I watch it on Sundance Channel. They had a recap of all the shows so far tonight.

Thanks Romeo

I just saw an episode last night (recorded, not sure when it aired), where Johnny’s discussing his aversion to getting shots.
“I’m a big wuss when it comes to needles. So imagine this enormous thing being shoved into me…”
Then he cut his eyes to the camera with a blank, smirky expression. And as Emeril would say – BAM! Right there, he had a very private moment with everyone. It was priceless and hilarious.
Go Johnny!! Fuck the haters!!!

@Taylor Siluwé: I must’ve missed this thread before, so missed your post. Brilliantly written!
I have a step-nephew who is a ballet and contemporary dancer. 6’2″, funny, talented, handsome, built, super smart, and straight. He, like many ice skaters is presumed to be gay. He doesn’t care what people think, and he doesn’t feel the need to constantly prove to others his sad curse of heterosexuality! He is who he is, like Johnny. He’s a superb althlete, as is Mr Weir. He’s unapologetic about his profession. He can lift his mom above his head, fix any automobile, and kick ass in martial arts.
This obsession with equating skating or dancing with femininity “skips over” the fact that these sports/arts require incredible athleticism and mental toughness.
“Fuck the haters!” The sexism and homophobia are getting tiresome.
