Being Gay Is The Same As Having Down’s Syndrome Or Spina Bifida, Catholic Bishop Says

imageJust when we thought we’d heard it all, Elphin Bishop Kevin Doran opened his mouth and the shit just flew, and flew.

In an interview with NewsTalk Breakfast this week, the good bishop expressed his opinions about gay people.

First, he said being gay is not a “sin” so long as people do not “behave” like homosexuals. Then he said same-sex couples with children are “not necessarily parents” because, well, he wasn’t really clear on why. But the real kicker came when he launched into a tirade about how being homosexual is tantamount to being handicapped.

When asked if people being born gay was “as God intended,” the bishop opined: “That would be to suggest that some people are born with Down’s syndrome or spina bifida, that that was what God intended.”

Down’s syndrome? Spina bifida? WTF?

“The thing about it is,” Doran continued, “I can’t see it in the mind of God.”

Evidently, in addition to being a bishop, Doran is also a psychic.

“The things you mentioned are disabilities,” the host replied. “Your sexual orientation is not a disability.”

To which, Doran quickly backtracked. “Well, I’m not entering into that,” he replied. Then he added: “I’m just saying it would be wrong to suggest that everything that happens, happens because God intended it. If that were the case, we’d be talking about a very different kind of God.”

A very different kind of God, perhaps. But the exact same kind of crazy.
