Let it be known: Ben Affleck is not a Grindr user.
The ubiquitous gay dating app would like to change that, however.
In an interview with Diane Sawyer last week, the Oscar-winning director and actor opened up to ABC News about his dating life, or lack thereof.
Specifically, he said he isn’t on any of the apps and went on to list a series of real and made-up applications.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.

“I’m on no dating apps. I’m not on Tinder, Grindr, Bumble, Humble — I am not on any of them. I don’t have judgement for people who are, great.”
It was a tad surprising to hear Affleck bring up Grindr in an interview unprompted, but hey — these are modern times we’re living in.
The team at Grindr couldn’t resist the opportunity to reply, tweeting to Affleck: “Don’t knock it till you try it”:

Please dispense with the misleading headlines! I’ll be more likely to read your stories if I find the descriptors believable.
G-Man
I totally agree with you.
Gandalf The Grey
I agree also!
Italyroks
It was the tease in the headline – not responsible Queerty at all. Keep it real or folks (like me) aren’t going to read. I watched the interview, and I don’t know if I’m more irritated that I clicked or that I knew better. Please be more responsible.
jonnokeates
Entirely agree with bammer47. Stop teasing us with such irresponsibly misleading headlines.

@ Grandolphrz. okay. thanks for those words of wisdom.

This one gives clickbait a bad name. It’s just pathetic.
ScottOnEarth
LOL! He probably has no idea what Grindr is and I can’t imagine a huge star like Ben Affleck being on any dating sites. He doesn’t exactly need to go fishing for romance.
corgimel
Ben doesn’t have to go looking, they cum to him.
jjmarkson
Hahaha got him back with that ugly photo ROFL
pscheck2
I think he is playing the coy game. Hey Ben how is Damon doing?
jesse davis
Come on now! Foolish is what I feel when reading this. So he doesn’t go on Grindr. Big f ing deal. The headline is misleading
Sister Bertha Bedderthanyu
I can see Ben Affleck completely ignored in a steam room at a crowded bathhouse with a two hour wait just to get in. He came off more as Batman’s accountant than a crime fighter. Him, Mark Wahlburg and Nicholas Cage are the most overrated, over paid, sexless stars out there after Christian Bale.

I so agree, Mark Wahlburg, (no Talent) & Nicholas Cage, (over-rated) – Ben Affleck (eehh) mediaocre actor at best (GIGLI) with that J-Ho (MESS). He’d be on an app. if it was called…. “Good Willie Hunter “
MISTERJETT
mediocre actors don’t win Academy Awards. stop trying to be a typical bitchy queen.
Sister Bertha Bedderthanyu
“mediocre actors don’t win Academy Awards.”
Oh really? Well, at least YOU think that Octavia Spencer can act. I have yet to see her in a role where her character would have been more interesting as a computer generation of her than her actually being on the set in front of a camera. Thats just how mediocre and untalented she seems. Every scene is a copy of the previous scene with the change of clothes being the only difference. I can’t fault Angela Lansbury going on a clandestine campaign to stop the remake of Murder She Wrote which Olivia was to play Jessica Fletcher.

It’s very obvious he knows nothing about dating apps, and probably didn’t even know Grindr caters to only gay men.
batesmotel
Sure he does. His production company with Matt Damon has been in the heart of gay town weho since the 90’s. He was in a gay film called Chasing Amy back then. His ex-wife was in Love Simon which talks about Grindr just a few years ago. He’s not a moron.
Stephen
People who are famous do badly on dating apps.
Expensive matchmakers are more reliable.
People wrote to my friend X and immediately called his profile bullshit.
Those that checked him out a little further were doubtful until they met.
Those that met were thrilled and many had performance problems! LOL.
After 6 bad hookups where he was seen as a TV personality only, he gave up.
Went to a gay matchmakers for wealthy discreet clients.
From matchmaker $5,000 for 4 referrals.
2nd connection. SNAP! Electricity. 20 months now! Happy for my friend!
They live together most of the year. They both work: meaning travel travel travel!
It’s one thing to lie online about your age, body shape and worst calling 6.5” an 8”,
But the cynical, shallow and misses that happen on online dating make me wish we all had $5000 and a profession matchmaker.
I have met guys locally. Vacation destinations and gay tour groups.
Honestly? I would rather pay for a travel escort. I know exactly what I am getting and I don’t expect more than companionship with travel with sex. And a hot Latino 35 year old is perfect travel date or a 3 hour date & mate + superior love machine.
Internet dating blows. But I am dearly appreciated in Pakistan, Indonesia, Sweden, Chile and South Africa! Zero chances of meeting but a couple are 15+ years online friends.
MrMichaelJ
Oh I’m pretty sure good ol’Ben has knocked on that door a few times and doesn’t need an app to knock on it whenever he wants.
Gary Q VV
“I’m not on any bla-bla-bla, or Grindr dating apps!” I believe him. There’s absolutely no reason that he needs to use apps. His people can get him any man he wants without going through a “vulgar to the elite” dating service or online app source. By the way Ben, it’s time to open that door and step out of the closet to the public. To hell with Hollywood and leading male roles.
batesmotel
Misleading headline. You really went out of your way to create a click bait. So he said Grindr. Big deal. So did Courtney Cox and countless others. Believe it or not, a great many people have heard of Grindr, including straight people, and my straight friends and I’ve never uttered the apps name before. It is a known app now. Doesn’t mean people are on it.
Gandalf The Grey
Actually there should be NO article. But if there is it should read that “Ben Affleck reveals in interview that he doesn’t use any of the dating sites/apps!” It’s not an LGBTQI+ story in any way!
jonasalden
Although I agree that it was typical Queerty click bait, I wouldn’t care if Ben Affleck WAS on Grindr. I can think of MANY out gay men who are loads more handsome than him anyway. He’s just “okay”. And not even my bag, so…
Gary Q VV
Yeah, he’s just – a guy – and no heart throbbing man’s man.
