This week, the beat on the street is that Will and Jack are both on the hunt for younger male lovahs.
And it seems the rumors are true. In a new Will & Grace clip, we meet Will’s bright-eyed young suitor, played by Ben Platt (best known for roles in Pitch Perfect and Broadway’s Dear Evan Hansen.) Platt’s character comments how Will (Eric McCormack) favorably resembles a newscaster, resulting in all sorts of repartee. (“This just in,” etc.)

The problem with Will and Grace is…Will and Grace. They are so bland. Will hasn’t had sex in like…23 years? When they show his naked ass getting beaten by a hairy black leather daddy, then we can have a great porn…I meant “TV comedy”. The Best thing about Will and Grace is Jack and Karen. Everyone harps about how stereotypical they are, but c’mon…we ALL know a Jack and Karen (You just thought your friends’ REAL names in your head, didn’t you?). It’s a guilty pleasure. If gay men across the country can get behind Real Housewives of Peoria, or wherever, and recite every St. Olaf Story known to man or herring, we can support a show that has truly made a difference in how Kansas farm folk see gay people. It’s not perfect. It may not cover the “hard issues” that people face, but it chips away at the “Straight Man, Straight Man, Uber Alles” veneer of middle America and makes us all a little more accessible as actual people, coworkers, and co-confidants in “getting the joke”.

Finally watched the new first episode and was quite happy with it. Reminds me, we’re all getting older and that includes them (and me). I noticed the makeup is thicker than the old show but the jokes are good.

I thought Platt was funny. What he WASN’T is a “boy toy” — a young, ripped, “trophy” boyfriend. He might be 23, but he’s kind of a pudgy faced, doughy, nerd. Jack’s date, the buff latino, now THAT was a boy toy.
