The joke behind the “mean tweet” videos popularized by Jimmy Kimmel is pretty simple: You get well-known people (in Jimmy’s case, A, B and sometimes C-list celebs) to read awful things people write about them on Twitter. The inherent likability of the performer, mixed with stripping away some of the anonymity of the web’s more negative participants, equals comedy gold.
It’s hilarious, for instance, for Lena Dunham to read, “Unpopular opinion: Lena Dunham’s boobs are dog noses,” because A. they are not dog noses, and B. Lena Dunham has a hit HBO show, notable film credits and a lucrative book deal under her belt by age 29 — she’ll be just fine.

So whoever’s idea it was at The Daily Signal for Aaron and Melissa Klein, the antigay bakers who refused to make a wedding cake for a same-sex couple, to do a similar video after it was reported that they’d been fined $136K, either has no sense of humor or is laughing the hardest for convincing the couple to go through with it.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.

When Melissa reads, “Yeah, Aaron & Melissa Klein (Sweet Cakes) are not Christians. Christ would never stoop so low as to behave the way they have. Bigots,” it doesn’t quite have that same spark.
It’s just awkward and a tad sad, really.

Hypocrites, gotta love ’em. Not!

I watched for 10 seconds. When it became clear they didn’t get the “frostelytizing” joke, it was over. Uneducated people taking uneducated stands don’t deserve any attention.

It certainly made sure they found out what people thought of them rather than allowing them to ignore it.

Please bitch pray for yourself.

I’ll pass on watching this one, but when the video surfaces of him getting F*%ked by, and 69ing with, another hairy dude, please let me know. Thanks!

isn’t that sweet. they find being called bigots funny. and maybe that ‘good christian’, who wants to claim that ‘god’s word is law’ should check and see what his bible says about body piercings.
Doug
They’re trying to show how unaffected they are by the whole thing. It’s clear by their closing explanation they’re not. The “people are just ignorant of us” statement is exactly what I see in re: to religious freaks making judgment calls against gay people.
SteveDenver
I hope they’re stupid enough to refuse service to gays, as they boasted on Jesus TV they would. They deserve incarceration.
Jaroslaw
@Ray Harmon: They absolutely did get the frostlytizing joke. They knew it was a reference to proselytizing.
DOUG – I’m not taking up for them, but going from being hurt to hurting for the mean poster/writer indicates a process of transitioning. This does not indicate they were unaffected to me. I will say the “ignorant” remark is off base and typical – I can understand their initial beliefs but after going through the firestorm without any insight that at the very least not realizing the hypocrisy of singling out Gays without acknowledging many other discrepancies between ancient religious teachings and modern life is detestable.
greatrubbist
Don’t they both come across gay??!! A lesbian and a gay man that hooked-up out of convenience and over their love of BAKING??!! I say they’re BOTH closeted!

Their hatred will be judged by their devil.

SMH.. Christians my a$$. If this is what its about, I will continue to stay away.

They (she especially) seem barely literate.

It’s so ironic how post tweets everything they say is verbatim what most gay people have to endure or tell themselves when it comes to dealing with homophobic prejudice and bigotry in mainstream society. Try dealing with that “ignorance” every day. This is completely lost on both of these idiots, of course.
tsginamarieva
They are having the last laugh, from what I understand. Even though gofundme shut them down, I understand they raised somewhere around $500,000 to play a $135,000 fine. I call that a big ole slice of that Hate Money Pie!!! Praise Jesus!
Daniel Robert
Why are we wasting news time on these idiots? Spend time on more newsworthy people instead of promoting the villains!
Xzamilio
When someone says they’ll pray for you, it’s a safe bet to completely dismiss them as nothing more than condescending religious jerks who think their shit don’t stink.

@tsginamarieva: Income tax as well as the IRS and good ol’ Uncle Sam will kick them in the butt so hard they’ll lose more than they “gained”.

The tweets were very idiotic. I’d laugh too.

The arrogance makes it clear that the whole ordeal only caused them to entrench in their stubborn narrow viewpoint. It didn’t help that the evangelical horde came to their rescue I’m sure. If not for them though, maybe the public in general got some good out of it all.

Lesbian-Librarian
They released the couple’s home address, phone numbers, harassed them, had their friends harass them, threatened them, and nearly cost them their foster children whom the lesbian couple is trying to adopt. That’s what the law suit is about. NOT because they didn’t make them a cake.
Tommy
Are they being serious? Off with their heads, off with their heads.
By the way, those tweets could have been a lot meaner.
