Billie Jean King on HBO

HBO premiered its documentary “Billie Jean King: Portrait of a Pioneer” last night on HBO; the documentary will now repeat 10,942 times through the end of May on HBO and HBO2. By the end of May, if you haven’t seen it, Billie Jean King herself will crawl out of your TV and beat you with her tennis racket until you watch the documentary about her life as a tennis champ and big lesbian.

King revolutionized the world of sports by beating tennis mega-star Bobby Riggs in a “Battle Of The Sexes” tennis match, originally meant just for fun–until she won. Since then, no one has paid any attention to Riggs’ multiple Grand Slam Tournament wins, as he is now stuck with the legacy of “I got beat by a girl” for the rest of eternity. Although we get beat by girls all the time in sports and we don’t see what the big deal is.
