YESSSSS ! Culture Club was so cool. (love that ridiculous 80’s video!) Boy George was shocking and fun with his makeup and funky style, yet nonetheless singing confidently about being a man. A man wearing lots of makeup with very pretty eyes ! I remember interviewers asking him why he wore makeup and he very unapologetically just replied “I think I look better with makeup.” A voice you could recognize instantly and the band had a very distinct fresh sound. I went to a Culture Club concert in the early 80’s, and I was shocked by how many tiny kids including little girls were there all dressed up exactly like Boy George….. he was subversive… yet inspiring and somehow non-threatening to families. Fingers crossed that their new music will re-create some of that magic !

When I was little, I couldn’t tell of Boy George was a man or a woman. I had to ask my Dad, but he wasn’t sure either. Simpler times.
