One-time vice presidential hopeful, flag desecrator, and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin says she’ll resign from office sometime this month and won’t seek another term.
The announcement comes on a Friday before a holiday weekend — the perfect time to break such news. But also? HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!
Palin, you’ll recall, supported Alaska’s 1998 Constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage, but used her first governor veto to block a bill that would’ve banned health benefits for state employees in same-sex relationships because it was unconstitutional — though Palin does not advocate extended benefits to gay couples. Before taking office, Palin ranked “preserving the definition of marriage” among her top three priorities if elected.

How about we take this to the next level?

If only this meant she would go away…
Marius
“She said the decision has been “in the works” for a while and comes after “prayer and consideration.”
What a crock of shit. She has plans and I don’t think she’s going away unless Bristol, Willow and Piper came out as lesbians.
Even then, she’d still be up to something.
Christ, I’m bitter and cynical – I’m learning to embrace it though.
Lance Rockland
Goodbye and good riddance. She’s trash.
o lol
Good.
But I’m sure a few of the commenters here would probably vote for her if she runs in 2012. lolol
InExile
Don’t think she is going away, she is just getting started. Maybe she thinks her chances to be President would be better if she starts running NOW. Just what Obama needs right now is her on TV everyday pointing out all of his mistakes.
Random Gay Guy
Unfortunately, this probably means that we are going to be seeing a lot of her. 2010 and 2012 ….. She no longer has the burden of commuting back and forth from Alaska to campaign everywhere.
InExile
@Random Gay Guy: Maybe she is answering her call to duty to rally the religious right troops?
TANK
Oh, I think there’s more to this than we know yet. This may be a preemptive move for what’s to come.
Random Gay Guy
@InExile
Probably. I really don’t see why she thinks she has any chance of winning. She is like the poster girl for the religious right and basically disease for everyone else. No one outside the conservative circles like her.
dvlaries
She can point out Obama’s mistakes all she wants, but as long as these family values-spouting right-wingers she’s aligned with keep reliably unmasking themselves as hypocritcal cheaters, and as long as Obama keeps his home where it belongs, Sarah has an uphill battle.
She’d also better hope Bristol doesn’t decide she to get knocked up again with no wedding ring and a different baby-daddy.
Joanaroo
Thx old broad har to have something up her sleeve and I don’t trust her. She’s a hypocritical GOP Wingnut.
bobito
Whatever her reasons for this decision, I think it’s a pretty safe bet she’s not stepping down to spend more private time with her family away from the public spotlight. “Good riddance” is a lovely sentiment, which I’d be only too happy to share, but I suspect that we will be seeing a lot more of her than we’d like in the upcoming months.
Joanaroo
Geezus! Old senile broad me better get some new glasses! Sorry for the typos!
InExile
@Random Gay Guy: This is the exact reason she is so dangerous. She thinks she is a reformer and will probably be out there pointing out “what change” has happened for instance! Or maybe their are some skeletons in her closet not yet revealed and this is a preemptive move on her part, time will tell. All the change Obama promised seems to be a myth thus far and she could point that out every day in the media. Do not underestimate this woman, the media loves to print stories about her.
M Shane
Maybe she got run over by a truck , and they think it might affect her performance.
christofeles
Have you ever stared evil in the face? You get a kind of shiver on the inside that makes you want to recoil. That’s what I feel when Sarah Palin aka “Baracuda” opens her cavity to spout off in hyped-up run-on sentences. She is the poster-child of American narcissism and grasping hollowness. Maybe she is telegenic. I’ll even give her charismatic. But so were Jim Jones and Dr. Goebbels. To say she is mean-spirited is like saying a snake is focused on its prey. And that appears to be about as evolved as her political instincts are. “Trash” is way too harmless an epithet.
InExile
She sees and opening with Obama’s flipping, flopping, and floundering to make her mark. Only a fool would pass up that chance! Too bad, he could have kept his promises.
Parasailin'
I smell scandal. Or talk show. This greasy puppy mill is looking to make some money. Turns out she ENJOYED shopping at Neiman’s. Can’t be bothered with running a state. When the going gets tough, the bitch goes shopping.
Dabq
@o lol: Just a few? I would say about 90% of the posters here would cast a ballot and send in big bucks for her since most agree with her on all issues!
She has merely left the governors job, she has had a taste of the good life and will be out front yapping for years to the delight of the GOP hateful. I would say she is on Fixed News before the end of the year with a show.
bobito
@Dabq: sadly, your last prediction would not surprise me one iota. On the plus side, she did manage to get the “news” stations talking about something other than Michael Jackson for the first time this entire week.
marius
She does keep herself in the news, doesn’t she.
Letterman should have received a thank you note for his contribution and now we have to look at her again because of this stunt.
As someone mentioned, there may be a scandal coming our way. I don’t think we’ll be that lucky.
Tim and Earl
Goodbye Alaska, hello D.C. – as our next Prez!
So many sore losers loved her and hate us! She’s their ticket back2power.
mikeandrewsdantescove
That speech was a HOT MESS. When she started comparing things to her basketball career. I would have stolen that ball from her and scored a lay up to win against her.

@InExile:
Maybe she is answering her call to duty to rally the religious right troops?
I was thinking precisely the same thought, InExile.
See sees how Obama is flip=flopping on the issues, is aware that the Religious Right Riff Raff is miffed by the few crumbs Obama has tossed at the LGBT community and knows how deterinned the RRRR is to see SSM ixnayed in all 50 states of the union.
In fact, as we talk, the RRRR, emboldened by their victory in California, is gearing up to do the very same thing they did there and we could see it on the ballot as early as November.
To the RRRR, Sarah Pahlin is Joan of Arc riding on her steed singing onward Christian soldiers marching as to war, with the cross of Jesus going on before.
It’s not a pretty picture. If she gets into office, it could make the Bush years look like a cakewalk.
schlukitz
@dvlaries:
“She’d also better hope Bristol doesn’t decide she to get knocked up again with no wedding ring and a different baby-daddy.”
Sorry to say this, but even if she did, it would only be a momentary blip on the radar screen of American consciousness.
The Religious Right Riff Raff just love to forgive their own kine/kind. It makes them feel good about themselves.
It’s those abominable, damned homosexschwulls they can’t forgive!
AlwaysGay
I am very cautious about her intentions. I don’t want her near any public office or on the airwaves again. However I do think her political career is over. She couldn’t handle the criticism. She made poor decisions since she stepped on the national scene. Whatever she does now I hope that it is not anti-gay.
SM
Sarah Palin’s political career is over. She just proved she was a quitter on Alaska when her popularity and oil revenue is sinking. Hillary never quit when it got rough.
Although, the rumor mill is buzzing that she is headed for a huge iceberg – criminal charges – AKA Housegate
ron
She is awesome..I just love her! I’ll take her as a dinner companion over any of you preachy hysterical loony left queens.
hyhybt
Not really relevant, but the linked article has my all-time least favorite misspelling. There’s no such word as “fued.”
marius
Better left than leftover.
fixator
@ron: Though I doubt her awesome factor, I agree that she seems the fun choice as a dinner companion
InExile
@schlukitz: Yes, it is very scary, she has a clear record as a reformer and executive experience. We are still waiting for Obama’s reforms. The only reform we have seen is corporate welfare for Wall Street. Oh and the gays, what gays?
galefan2004
In my opinion, I think she only resigned to do one of two things 1) I believe Alaska has a Senator’s seat open next year she might go after or 2) she plans on starting the campaign for president. Either way, this crazy ass pageant/drama queen is not going away any time soon.
galefan2004
@InExile: In my opinion, that is exactly what Obama needs. This nation will never elect Palin president, but she will make for some nice heat on Obama, and her pointing out his mistakes every day will just make him more determined to do things to piss her off.
Robert, NYC
I only hope her husband Todd heats on her with a twink. How about if he hit on Levi, Bristol’s former boyfriend? What a hoot that would be….and another slap in the face of the sanctity of marriage hypocrites. Palin is reported to have had an affair with one of her husband’s business partners. I wonder how that was covered up?
InExile
@galefan2004: Lets just hope she does not drive him further into the arms of the religious right. He is already very careful not to offend the religious right, more so than his worry of offending gays.
spindoc
They are reporting now that she is about to be under federal criminal investigation for steering contracts towards a company that in return built her house for free etc… It looks like she could really be in trouble. If course she’ll just blame it all on the media…..hopefully from her jail cell.
hyhybt
@InExile: I don’t like being ignored either, but there are much worse things, and she’d do them.
H. Jimenez
I have the scary feeling the B*T@# is not going away, she will “hide” and lurk under the shadows and come out again before 2012 re-energized with discrimination, religious fanatism and her “values” B.S….stay tuned.
galefan2004
@Robert, NYC: Omfg, I would so let Todd Palin fuck me. The dude is very hot.
@InExile: Honestly, I think that Obama’s biggest problem is he is a centralist. He really wants to play both sides of the political aisle. He hasn’t figured out that that doesn’t work very well. I think that the Palin pressure will actually push him away from the position. Palin is painting herself as the overachieving centralist. I think Obama is going to have to change to be different than her on that point. Obama really needs to learn that the Democrats put him in office to do what the Democrats wanted done. We didn’t put him in office so he could kiss the asses of bigoted assholes and other Republicans.
If Obama was to the Democrats what GW was to the Repugs, he would take the majorities in the house and senate and use them to push through whatever he wanted pushed through. The only reason he isn’t like that, in my opinion, is because he smart enough to realize that what GW did to the country was so fucked up that most people will be voting for the Democrats for as long as the memory of GW stays in their minds. I think Obama is trying to avoid getting his entire party branded as the party to avoid if he fucks up and the best way to do that is to argue that every decision he made was with bipartisan support. However, thankfully some Republicans are starting to see the light, and gay issues are moving forward with bipartisan support.
galefan2004
@spindoc: Wow. That was the other thing I was thinking that I didn’t mention. I was thinking she was going to run for Senator/President or something huge was about to come out and she would look much better if she wasn’t in the governor’s chair when it did. Oh, how nice it would be for all of us, if Mrs. Palin got a huge assed black eye. This is the bitch that keeps on giving. Thank god she is a Republican. Seriously, when its all said and done this bitch will rival GW for the “good” that she did the Republican party. So far, she cost them an election, made them look like the ditz party, and now she is proving she can’t even govern the smallest state in the country (population wise). Way to go Sarah. Bitch should have stayed a beauty queen.
drake
REMAINING QUESTION: What happened to all her husband’s SILK BOXERS bought at Neiman Marcus with campaign funds? Donated to the homeless? sold on e-bay?? Worn at a wet boxers contest on e-bay???
galefan2004
@drake: I don’t know, but personally, I really don’t care. You see, when they decided to turn ice queen barbie and her matching ken doll into more respectable people with RNC funds they should have realized that they probably weren’t going to get the dudes underwear back. I mean, seriously, I don’t think that any homeless shelter or clothing store actually takes USED underwear. While there are some gay guys (and possibly girls) that wouldn’t mind owning a pair of Todd Palin’s used undies, I’m personally not one of them (although I think he is hot), and I can’t imagine why anyone would want the dude to give them back.
Robert, NYC
@galefan2004:
He is rather cute, I have to admit. I’ve no doubt he’d be hot to watch in action.
As for Palin, I hope she remains in the GOP spotlight. All she can do is alienate their party further to the right which will cost them countless elections. The more she opens her mouth, the better. For the GOP to make any significant comeback, it needs to embrace diversity, especially to the appeal of the new generation of voters, the young. Its failed dismally, it has no equality platform, has never written, authored, co-authored one piece of equality legislation. Until that happens, it can never see itself as a party of inclusion. Even its own Log Cabiners aren’t allowed a say at any of their conventions, evidence enough of their exclusion policies. Any sane gay man or woman would never support a party that consistently votes against full equality. Palin and most in the GOP will make sure that continues.
unclemike
There has to be scandal brewing somewhere in front of which she is trying to get. She already said that she is out of politics for good. So, right now, she’s just a quitter. If she tries to run for anything again, she’ll also be a liar. Either way, politically, she’s dead in the water.
Schadenfreude is delicious, though.
galefan2004
@Robert, NYC: I 100% agree with you. She is doing us a favor by running her mouth more and more. I hope she is here for a very long time. I don’t know how any self-respecting gay man can be a part of anything that silences him (including religion and politics). It took me about 12 years to fully remove my brain washing that I got from my fundy background. I’m much happier and much more alive now that I have. However, at times, the background still kicks in, so it is still an ongoing battle.
7SK
Well, at least there’ll be more material for Tina Fey.
Dick Mills
I can hardly wait to learn what the scandal is! The way that she sounded when she could barely catch her breath in her mad dash to resign. She appeared extremely agitated and nervous – just like one would if they were trying to beat a scandal to the punch. This one should be pretty juicy, too! Maybe she really did cheat on Toad with his “business” partner, or maybe he cheated on her?? Maybe that mongrel baby really was Bristol’s, and the real parents of the stand-in / prop baby are demanding it back?? Maybe they got caught embezzling even more than the per diems that they fraudulently absconded with while living in their own house?? Maybe one of the other little underage trollops DID get knocked-up??? That would be Karma!
The possibilities are endless!!!
But, whatever the case may be, the BEST possible thing that Palin could do for the Democrats is to attempt to run for POTUS in 2012. If she did manage to win the nomination, that would absolutely ensure a second Obama term.
Karl
Bye, Bye Sarah! Please………..don’t come back!
Marius
She just said that she had a “Higher calling.” and her Press Secretary said that “The world is her(Palin’s)oyster.”
Ruh-roh.
Robert, NYC
Gale…yes! Palin is very popular among many of the male republican voters, the religious fascists in particular and among many of the Sanford, Vitter ilk. Of course it has absolutely nothing to do with brains. She has more than a year left in office, why the sudden departure? Does make one wonder. I just hope we continue to see more sex scandals coming out, hopefully more among the republicans. Have you noticed how most of them when caught, suddenly resort to their religion to humanize themselves even more and gain sympathy because they’re straight? It must be a mental illness or something, some kind of sickness either way but still upholding the sanctity of marriage nonsense. When its a male politician caught with a male, then its about denigration, dehumanization and the target of ridicule. Its beyond hypocrisy and the double standard.
galefan2004
@Marius: Maybe Obama is tired of Hilary and in the spirit of bi-partisanship (this non-existent thing he will never give up) tapped Palin for Secretary of State.
epluribusunumjk
I think that while there might be a scandal, the woman is just a fucking idiot. She makes huge bets that she believes somehow will induce America to love her.
Ever since she entered the stage, she constantly has made choices that gamble away the few brownie points she has scored with normal folks in the GOP (assuming that there are some).
It’s unfortunate for her that America will see right through this lunacy and that she will likely never see a general for pres. ever in her life. Even if she didn’t make royal fuck ups like during McCain’s campaign, she is still fighting a massive, uphill battle. While I loved Hillary Clinton and campaigned for her extensively, you can’t win the primaries, let alone the general, when half the country hates you.
M Shane
The truly frightening matter is the bizarre fact that after Bush we could have had her as presidenty. Ya think something just might be wrong with our government?
rick
And her followers were forever known as Palinites. And they were mocked and ridiculed and held up to small children as an example of foolishness and superstition and nonsense mixed with hate.
The Palintes have shown who truly drinks the metaphorical kool aid and that the base is nothing more than that, base.
They have ignored the fact that the Palin pals around with Witch Hunters and says a Witch Hunters blessing helped get her elected.
She pals around with a witch hunter for Christ’s sake, the woman is not normal and to accept such behavior is not normal.
GS
Sex scandal!! Sex scandal. Please let it be a sex scandal
I pliss
Great karma would be if one of kids are gay! And I mean come out sreaming! She would most likely go into hiding after that! lol
