Do you think dating sucks? Well, try doing it when you’re a super busy state lawmaker and arguably one of the highest profile LGBTQ elected officials in the country who is constantly fending off homophobic attacks by Republicans while fighting for equality and lookin’ cute while doing so.
In a dejected Facebook post shared yesterday, Pennsylvania State Rep. Brian Sims wrote: “DATING: Trying to find love during a global pandemic is pretty complicated most days. Yeah I want to go to movies and restaurants again too, but talk to me about holding hands, weekend adventures, and meeting my dog.”

When someone asked whether he thought being a celebrity hindered his dating prospects, the 41-year-old replied: “I think it’s probably just another thing that impacts my life and therefore my love life. Some days it’s ok, most days it’s not.”

Why is he crying about dating when he’s had the boyfriend and the Fire Island adventures posted all over his IG account. Does he actually date or is he just looking for the next social media scavenger to help boost his profile? White, male, affluent, influential, able-bodied, fairly attractive. Pretty much the cream of the crop of privilege in the LGBT community. Although he deserves everything he’s worked hard for, it’s an eye roll to assume he’s someone to feel sorry for.

Definitely not hating on you Brian, but maybe if you dated outside the stereotypical gay box, you might find someone who doesn’t care about your status, bank account and everything else that may come along with you. Some of us are just regular, down to earth guys who care more about what’s on the inside of a person and not what’s on the outside. I have a lot of respect for Brian Sims as a political figure, but maybe he’s being too picky. Maybe he thinks he can AFFORD to be picky. But does he honestly think that Gay men who “talk to me about holding hands, weekend adventures, and meeting my dog” are that rare? They aren’t. Does a good personality have to be coupled with good looks, ripped abs, and celebrity? What if a guy prefers hiking in the woods to the Fire Island party scene? I’d like to sit him down and find out what he’s really all about.

Too picky? Nothing wrong with having standards. I am tired hearing gay guys being chastised for being white, professional and taking care of my body and that’s all I hear about guys like him. Maybe if more people had standards for themselves then they wouldn’t hate on those who do.

AMEN! I’m SO tired of being chastised in my hometown for being white, in good shape, having a great job AND not wanting to date or “date” all gay men in my community. I am an older daddy type who works hard for my life achievements and on my body and am tired of apologizing for being a “white A list gay”. I didn’t set out for that to by my goal in life, it just so happens that all things I do have made those who do nothing jealous. I’m not saying I’m all that and a bag of chips, but I like myself and work hard for what I have and how I look. For all the lazy, meth-headed no-job having gays out there still living with their mom at age 35 I say get YOUR ßhit together and get off of my @$$ simply because I have.

I believe a major problem he has is that most guys see him only for his physicalness and once that has been tapped, they move on. No one sees him for the man he is inside. I believe that many incredibly handsome men are never loved for who they are. Too many times it is just the physical attraction which is NOT love.

Why is it we hate on each other so much? We like what we like. What’s wrong with that. If you are a vegan that’s great it’s not my thing but you do you and I’m gonna do me! Dating online is difficult in this day and age as it’s so easy to reject someone behind a computer screen! I look at it this way if we don’t work out dating at least I can make a new friend!
