Britney Spears has revealed that she is pregnant again. The singer, 40, took to Instagram to announce the news. She’s previously hinted that she and partner Sam Asghari, 28, wanted to have a baby. She also called Asghari her “husband”, leading some fans to speculate on whether they had secretly wed.
The news has been warmly welcomed by fans, and Spears’ posting has been liked over 1.7million times at the time of writing.

In 2021, whilst fighting to overturn her 13-year conservatorship, Spears revealed she was forced to have an intrauterine birth control device. She told a court she wanted to take control of her own fertility and be a parent again.

In her Instagram posting, Spears said she was surprised to quickly appear to put weight back on after losing some during a vacation to Hawaii. That’s when she took a pregnancy test.

“I lost so much weight to go on my Maui trip only to gain it back 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️ … I thought ‘Geez … what happened to my stomach ???’ My husband said ‘No you’re food pregnant silly 🤪 !!!’ So I got a pregnancy test … and uhhhhh well … I am having a baby 👶🏼 … 4 days later I got a little more food pregnant 🤰🏼🙈🙈🙈 It’s growing !!! If 2 are in there … I might just lose it 😬😬😬😬😬😬”
She said she would avoid going out much as she knows photographers will now be targeting her for potential baby bump snaps. She also said previous pregnancies had triggered depression—something she was taking steps to avoid.
“I obviously won’t be going out as much due to the paps getting their money 💴 shot of me 📸 like they unfortunately already have … it’s hard because when I was pregnant I had perinatal depression … I have to say it is absolutely horrible 😔 … women didn’t talk about it back then … some people considered it dangerous if a woman complained like that with a baby inside her … but now women talk about it everyday … thank Jesus we don’t have to keep that pain a reserved proper secret 🤫 😬😬😬 … This time I will be doing yoga 🧘♀️ every day !!! Spreading lots of joy and love 💕 !!!”
Spears is already a mom to sons Sean, 16, and Jayden, 15, with her ex, Kevin Federline. She was freed from her conservatorship last November by a Los Angeles judge.

Spears had told the court, “I wanted to take the [IUD] out so I could start trying to have another baby, but this so-called team won’t let me go to the doctor to take it out because they don’t want me to have any more children.
“So basically this conservatorship is doing me way more harm than good. I deserve to have a life. I’ve worked my whole life.”
Asghari confirmed news of the pregnancy on his own Instagram, writing: “Marriage and kids are a natural part of a strong relationship filled with love and respect. Fatherhood is something I have always looked forward to and I don’t take lightly. It is the most important job I will ever do🙏”

The media around Britney Spears (including self-generated social media) is so strange and overheated I don’t know what to think anymore. Since it looks like pregnancy and child-rearing are in her immediate future, I hope she takes a break from the spotlight. I do wish her and her new husband every happiness!

To take away one’s right to reproduce has always been one of the most controversial deprivations inflicted on the disabled and mentally ill. It’s outrageous that she was required to have an IUD against her will and highlights the potential excesses of conservatorships. Not even mentioning the justice Britney deserves, independent authorities need to go back and review and investigate with a fine-tooth comb Britney’s conservatorship for mistakes and abuses. To make someone a conservatee is a very serious matter involving the deprivation of several important civil rights; the public needs to have confidence in the process.
