Mississippi has passed anti-LGBT ‘Religious Liberty’ bill 1523. I find it incomprehensible that LGBT citizens are being discriminated against in the state of Mississippi. I cannot in good conscience perform in a State where certain people are being denied their civil rights due to their sexual orientation. Therefore i’m cancelling my 14 April show at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. Using my voice I stand in solidarity with all my LGBT friends to repeal this extremely discriminatory bill. Hopefully Mississippi will right itself and I can come back and perform for all of my many fans. I look forward to that day.”Bryan Adams fighting against discrimination with a note posted to his official Facebook page

I love this new trend, and no doubt “joeyty” will tell us how ironic this is because he personally “knows” gay men who “despise” Brian Adams?
But let’s ask a naïve question: how come nobody ever boycotted California over Prop 8? Any time someone dared to suggest doing that, all the gay people in California SCREAMED.
And arguably, Prop 8 was worse than either the Mississippi or North Carolina laws in that it wasn’t an act of the state legislature, it was a popular vote. Luckily it was overridden by the US Supreme Court, but to get technical about it, the voters of California are STILL on record as hating same-sex marriage!
(I just feel like kicking the hornet’s nest today!)
Good, maybe it will get all the politically apathetic “liberals” and college peeps to freaking vote and raise some activist cain now that they know it’s going to affect their cultural lives. Too many people have been letting the religious zealot minorities control the political landscape.
And he, rather than the state, is being accused of being a bully. What do the republicans have inside their skulls? Certainly not an excess of neurons.
Thanks Bryan! Sincerely.
Also, lets keep in mind gender issues are not sexual orientation issues, and that weve already made clear that all men and women are equal so we really shouldnt even have to be dealing with this again. Im so happy though, to see so many people getting on the right side of history
@onthemark: Because, if they were boycotting every state that didn’t have gay marriage in the mood 2000s, they’d be outlawing like 47 states? That seems kind of obvious.
..you see this is what I was telling everyone–it’s all gonna end up more difficult for stupid idiots like this state of America, any others and including the Church!!
I think 80’s artists get that this is wrong, more than other generations. The 80s was full of coming outs, and I was young enough to get it, accept it and have friends in all walks of life ever since. Open mindedness of this era has shed light on today’s younger generation. God bless one of my fave faves Brian Adams, and those like him with forward thinking. ð???
And then remember that time when he played in Egypt where the gays are ….. Oh, right we’re not supposed to remember that. These self-righteous entertainers that think their opinions matter crack me up.
@onthemark:
California’s record
2000 – Prop 22 – over 20% margin in favour of banning gay marriage
2008 – Prop 8 – only 4% margin in favour of banning gay marriage
It is obvious that even if there was only 1% change each year in favour of gay marriage, California would vote in favour of gay marriage if there was another ballot.
All the courts affirmed gay marriage in CA (even if the SC punted on standing and vacated the circuit court ruling).
The CA legislature amended the state constitution (illegally) to legalize gay marriage.
Pretty much all routes lead to gay marriage in CA now. Their record is that they were one of the early ones to get a majority in favour of gay marriage. Many states aren’t even where California was in 2008.
