Then maybe you also heard the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences also bestowed a one Buju Banton with an award, for Best Reggae Album, honoring his record Before The Dawn. Buju will be celebrating the honor today … in federal court in Tampa, where’s he’s due to appear on drug trafficking charges. His second trial kicks off today after his first one, five months ago, resulted in a hung jury. Congratulations on your big score!

First trial was on two counts. This trial has four counts and two more witnesses for the prosecution. These prosecutors have a 90% conviction rate. The jury will watch video of Banton sampling cocaine in the process of brokering a large cocaine purchase. Banton’s defense is essentially that he only talked about making drug deals to impress his new friends, and the US government “set him up.”
I’ll be stunned if the jury acquits. Then again, it’s…Florida.
