All across the nation, men and woman are burning their tennis shoes and ripping apart their workout clothes because… ‘Merica!
To make a long story short: Nike announced this week that Colin Kaepernick, the former San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback who became political lightning rod when he began kneeling during the National Anthem to protest against police brutality, is one of the faces for its new “Just Do It” campaign.
Naturally, racists, Trump supporters, and white supremacists weren’t happy about any of this. So they’ve taken to social media to express their outrage:
First the @NFL forces me to choose between my favorite sport and my country. I chose country. Then @Nike forces me to choose between my favorite shoes and my country. Since when did the American Flag and the National Anthem become offensive? pic.twitter.com/4CVQdTHUH4

In addition to torching their Nikes (which they’ve already paid for), many have also cut the logo out of their clothing (which they’ve also already paid for):
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Our Soundman just cut the Nike swoosh off his socks. Former marine. Get ready @Nike multiply that by the millions. pic.twitter.com/h8kj6RXe7j

So the rednecks are using Freedom of Speech and expression to protest the football players’ right to Freedom of Speech and expression.

This entire thing has got me pissed because there are children going to school with holes in their shoes, there are homeless vets who’s shoes are falling apart yet people are burning their perfectly good sneakers to spite a company over an ad of a man who kneeled during the anthem. If they really cared about vets they’d be trying to get the VA better and homeless vets in houses and food in their guts.

I’m surprised people are still buying Nike products; the company is as horrendous as Apple.
