Garry Bushell must be a Mugabe loyalist. The outspoken British radio and music personality spouted some particularly backward hate speech
yesterday earlier this year while discussing Russian coppers smacking down Peter Tatchell.
In that article, Tatchell discusses the threats against his life and, more importantly, the physical attacks he’s endured, including being beaten during Moscow Pride. Bushell apparently has no sympathy:
Commenting on Peter Tatchell, the gay rights activist, being attacked by anti-gay protestors, Bushell said: “I think there are a lot of things to put right in this country before you go around preaching the gospel of perversion.”
And obviously there are a lot of things to put right when a shit talker like Bushell gains access to radio, television or any other form of mass media…
Bushell’s remarks came on TalkSport radio, which is hosted by an equally repugnant man named Mike Mendoza. In response to Bushell’s inflammatory comments, Mendoza drew an uneven, unethical comparison between pedophiles and gay people: “Pedophiles in general are the type of people that surely would not follow football…not many gay people to the best of my knowledge are great football fans.” Cute.
Ofcom, which owns the radio station, has not yet announced Bushell’s fate, but Mendoza has been suspended for a week. A Talksport spokesperson says, “We took action straight away over the unacceptable comments and have reminded presenters and production staff about their responsibilities.” Well, that’s a relief!
