Caitlyn Jenner is under fire… again. This time, she’s being criticized for hanging out with an antigay pastor who led the successful fight against Houston’s Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO) earlier this year.
Pastor Ed Young of Houston’s Second Baptist Church was one of the driving forces behind the repeal of HERO, which would have offered basic protections to LGBTQ workers from discrimination on the grounds of sexuality or gender identity.

In October, he called the law “godless” and “a very serious moral issue.”

While taping an upcoming episode of I Am Cait, Jenner attended a Christmas pageant at the Second Baptist Church and ultimately ended up holding hands and praying with the trans-hating pastor.
Of course, this isn’t the first time Jenner has engaged in questionable behavior. Earlier this year, she came out against same-sex marriage only to backtrack a few days later. She also said she’ll likely vote Republican in 2016, despite every single Republican candidate being against LGBTQ rights. And she told Buzzfeed that the hardest part about being a woman was “figuring out what to wear.”
In a blog post published last week, Jenner addressed critics by saying she’s doing her best “to be a force for good.”
“I am guessing this is probably not the last time I will say the wrong thing, or say something the wrong way,” she wrote. “I promise to keep learning, and to try to be more articulate in the future. We have a lot of hard work to do. I am looking forward to doing it together.”

This is kinda’ what I’m talking about whenever I question aloud the cogency of “the LGBTQ community.” We aren’t *necessarily* one community. Trans people aren’t necessarily gay or lesbian or bi, and don’t necessarily care about homosexual/bisexual people’s issues or status. And and given gay or lesbian or bi person isn’t necessarily trans, doesn’t necessarily care about trans peoples’ issues or status.
It’s *good* when we recognize a common enemy and ally to support our respective struggles, (and our enemies are often the same people because it’s typically sexism/misogyny that leads bigots to homophobia & transphobia as well,) but being gay and being trans does not necessarily make for a natural, inevitable alliance. There are homophobic trans people and transphobic gay people.
Recognizing that we’re several lifeboats strapped tenuously together, with sometimes-competing agendas, will make for a more reasonable relationship. Assuming we’re a monolith with no internal fault-lines or conflicts and no need for periodic introspection and ‘maintenance’– and not respecting the differences and admitting space for them– will just cause this thing we’re operating to blow apart.

@JLAD1105: I still consider Transsexuals part of the Gay community – I met Iranian, Arab, Black and white Canadian Transsexuals who consider themselves very much the gender they feel they belong too, and some of them, be them woman or men, also have same-sex attractions.
I will agree with you that those of them who end up being physically men or woman, and have attraction to the opposite sex, those should be considered straight.
But to ponder a little bit on the opposing view, logically speaking, once the transition is over, they cannot be called “trans” anymore unless we want to admit that whether they complete the operation or not, they are still considered the gender they were born with, and that would be the only justification I see to keep the trans label within the gay community.
For historic reasons, and from societal pressure, I can see why we still have the T in LGBT community.
Heck many of us still have a hard time accepting Bisexuals.

My husband and I met before he realized what he could do, and before he even had a term for “gender dysphoria.” He just thought he was a little butchier than most butches…nothing unusual there. So…we identified as a “lesbian couple.” I had always had pansexual tendencies, so I’d dated men, women, and genderqueer individuals in the past. But one day, he woke up. With that said, when our gay, bi, and lesbian brothers and sisters make comments that are transphobic, or that “trans really isn’t part of the same movement,” I want to shout, punch, and run things over in my wheelchair. Do you all forget who stood shoulder-to-shoulder with gay men and lesbians at the Stonewall Riots? Brave transgender women and men, that’s who. I’m not putting Caitlin Jenner in that same category — at this point, I’m wondering if she’d be sitting at home, reading her paper with her coffee, and shaking her head at the insurrection in disgust, while, of course, lounging about in some of Coco’s best. But many of us — both trans* persons and those of us who stand by them — work diligently and unwaveringly for Y/OUR rights.
For instance, I’m obviously, a trans* right’s advocate — but I work just as hard for EVERY other letter in the soup, and also for the rights of my fellow Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), for racial equality, to keep the pulpit and the government safely separated, and all those other nifty rights. That’s why I’m a City Commissioner. Vice Chair of the City’s Human Rights Commission, actually, as well as being Ms. Wheelchair Eastern USA 2016.
It’s a mixed bag, I know…but as long as there is wrong in society — namely homo/trans-phobia(s) — then as an advocate, I’ll have a job…and a purpose. (Whether you all welcome my husband and me or not.)

As others have written here, I also applaud her courage in her decision and even if just one person is helped by her coming out…mission accomplished. Hopefully things will turn around for Caitlyn and she will go on to be well informed and sensitive to the community

This last offense reduces Jenner from ignorant or insensitive to traitor. Add the fact that Jenner is a Kardashian and automatically puts anything “she” does under skepticism. (For that last reason, I will continue to place Jenner’s gender in quotes, because I expect “her” at some point to change “her” mind after getting enough attention & money; however I will be the first to admit my error if “she” actually completes “her” SRS surgery. My trans friends still can’t afford their SRS surgeries that they have desperately wanted their whole lives; what’s stopping Jenner?)

People forget there’s always more to one side of a story but find it way easier to jump into a mob mentality mode than to find a reasonable explanation.
