Anyone smitten with the popular TikTok gang “The Old Gays” rejoice: the geriatric foursome have just landed their own TV series.
NBC News reports that Robert Reeves, Mick Peterson, Bill Lyons and Jessay Martin–best known as “The Old Gays”–have just signed with Brian Graden Media (BGM) to develop a new television docuseries focusing on their lives and friendship in Cathedral City, CA, a suburb of Palm Springs.
“We are thrilled to be working with the hilarious and very talented ‘Old Gays,’” BGM CEO Brian Graden said in a statement. “Their videos resonate with audiences young and old alike and viewers have shown extreme interest in seeing their lives on a more personal level which we intend to deliver upon.”

At present, the Old Gays have more than 3 million followers on TikTok. The group first rose to infamy as spokesmen for the popular gay dating app Grindr. They’ve since developed a loyal following for their mix of humor and warmth, as well as their anecdotes from LGBTQ history.
“I think the most important thing that we’re educating people on is that 60 years ago, coming out was a real struggle,” Bill Lyons told NBC during Pride Month 2021. “You didn’t talk about coming out to your parents or anything. In fact, a lot of situations, I heard when parents found out that one of their children was gay, they kicked him out of the house right away. It really wasn’t easy in the beginning.”
“I have not always had a voice,” Jessay Martin added. “This has given me an opportunity to really use my voice and to just not to worry about what people are thinking of me. For me, it really has been and still is quite the journey. I don’t know where it’s going, but right now I’m on cloud nine and I’m thankful to be a part of it.”
No word on when the show will premiere, or which network or streaming service will air it.

This is exciting. They make me almost want to create a TT account. I’ve enjoyed so many of their videos. Not to be too morbid but I hope they all are around to see the show come to fruition.

Sounds good! They should include “The Fall of ’55” When Boise, Idaho had an embarrassing time in the way they handled gays!

Never have I watched The Golden Girls–not even a single episode. (I know, that probably makes me “not fully gay” in the opinion of some people. They’ll just have to deal with it). However, I HAVE watched a ton of “Old Gays” videos and I’m crazy about the four of them. I hope the show is well structured and especially, that they’re given plenty of leeway by the show’s producers to offer advice to younger people. I’ve always thought of that as being their best quality/talent.

GIVE ME YOUR GAY CARD! No seriously we are in the same boat. I have never seen Golden Girls, Will and Grace or Ab Fab. I promise I am still gay though, and a fun gay. When those shows were airing I was busy doing other gay stuff (bartending late hours and partying) out in the world. Cheers!

This is definitely a trend now. People trumpeting about things they haven’t done or seen. Why mention Golden Girls or W&G. How can you have an opinion in the information age if you haven’t watched them? Particularly in context of the time they were screened. I haven’t been to Russia and Belarus. That’s because they are a bunch of homophobic bigoted thugs, RIGHT NOW. I haven’t seen old gays, but I will reserve opinion until I do.

Congratulations!
But of course, if you like making fun of them, or watching them
but avoid meeting, helping, doing things with older folx in your bldg, your neighborhood, the club, etc
you might want to check that old age-racism.
Try volunteering – for real – with your local nursing facility, senior center, meals on wheels, etc.

I love this and will definitely watch.

WELL I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE THIS. I SAW ALL THE GOLDEN GIRLS AND I WILL BE LOOKING FOR THIS TO COME ON TV.

I’ve seen their videos on YouTube. They’re a lot of fun. Being an “old gay” myself, I appreciate what they’re doing and hope they continue for a long time.
